Thought this might be of interest to some of you. :)

I hate to post when I have nothing to contribute, but it always seems that so few show their appreciation for the time you take to explain your process that I feel I must.

Thank you very much Nick!

Eric

Edited to add....I can't find the previous video, but wanted to ask.... I know you've shown the guard milling before, and the fact you mill a larger opening towards the tang then what faces the blade, which leaves that 'shelf' which is smaller to fit than the whole height of the guard. Do you do that with a slightly larger end mill also? Just up a 1/16 or so from whatever you want the blade side opening to be?

Dude, I love that little sandpaper clamp setup on the surface block- made me smile. Might have to try that.

Thanks for posting this, Nick. As always very informative! (I somehow always end up having to go and make some more tools after watching your videos...)

Same here! It looks like it would work much better than my method of laying "something" heavy on top of my granite block. Thanks for the video!

I never thought of using a vice to hold a small piece on the bandsaw. I can be pretty dense sometimes.

I keep getting ideas every time I watch your videos... :). Thanks for posting your stuff up, Nick.

Cool videos Nick. Thanks again for documenting your whole process like this.
That Wilton vise sure is a beauty! I want one. :o

Very similar to how I've landed on doing my small hunters. I really should think about making bowies. 1/8" wide slots in 3/8" thick guard stock kinda sucks.

I don't have a stable enough bandsaw for those cuts (yet), so I'm using the mill to rough out the undersides of the shoulders, and doing the profile on the sander only. Still works pretty decent.

Also, if you don't have a foredom, you need one. Cratex + Foredom is almost like cheating when you are finishing out guards, and the inside corner of the ricasso also.

Nick,
Thanks again for taking the time to post this! Now have to add another tool or two to the TO MAKE list.:p
