Five Fixed Forever?

Well of the knives I own, and anyone can buy today...
1 Mora companion HD stainless. Just cause I think it's so good for $20 it's on the list, I have em stashed all over the place.
2 Victorinox 6 inch kitchen knife. Use mine all the time and get's the job done.
3 Esee 6. Super comfortable for a bigger knife, without being too heavy.
4 Fallkniven F1 pro in Elmax. Great little do everything knife, and it might be the last one I would part with. Rubber handle in the winter is really nice.
5 White river Ursus 45 in 3V. Another nice do everything belt knife.
Bonus, the Spyderco waterway would be on there if I was around salt water.

As long as I can have a folders, saw and an axe, I think I'd be ok with that list.

This thread has had me in deep thought for the past hour and a half, my wife has now asked me twice what is on my mind.... it's so hard to choose... why would you do this to me?!

That comment immediately took me back to the days when I could think about something without a well considered explanation being the first step in the process.. lol

I only have 7 fixed blades that aren’t kitchen knives.

My List:
Old USMC Utility Knife.
.25 thick, 11 inch blade. It’s a beast. Out chops the Bolo. Need to put a handle on it. Know anyone?
Lon Humphrey Gunfighter Bowie.
Better fighting knife than the RC 6 or WW1 Bolo (tough decision)
Tojiro 8” Chef’s Knife.
I need a chef’s knife.
Cold Steel SRK-C.
Great all around sized blade.
Spyderco Sprig.
Great knife for so many things. Fishing, hunting, steak knife, good deboning knife, whatever.

The three left out. It was a tough decision. Can’t believe I left out the RC6.

You mentioned kitchen? I would use none of them in my kitchen because my cheap $200 Japanese chef’s knife will be a MUCH better choice than any of these and all of them together.

Kitchen, AND everything else.

A few of the knives I picked would work in the kitchen but aren’t chefs knives or optimized for food prep.

Sounds like you’re covered for your kitchen knife. Which four other knives from your collection would you keep?

If you haven’t watched it, the above video is a response to the one I posted by DBK above, but the host(?), Pete, has a different take on a “five knives forever” list.

What are your picks using the same general rules as above but sticking to Pete’s list from the video?

Pete’s List:
1) Folding EDC pocket knife
2) Companion fixed blade
3) Kitchen knife
4) Survival knife
5) Self-defense knife

(Space saved for my picks/pic)

I'm a town boy, who likes his hot coffee, indoor bed, and hot showers. It's important to understand this, because if I did need to do woodscraft for some reason, a knife would not be my first choice.

I guess if the S really did hit the F, this kukri would be a decent choice for, you know, whatever needs cutting.

Still wants a demolition bar to back it up, but that's a different thread.

For most everything else, I would choose this everyday-ish-sized, made by an employee of a local Smithy that I have a good relationship with. Their leatherbender quit, so I'll need to figure out how to commission a proper carry rig for it.

I've been working on this as a "cut whatever needs cutting" knife, from cardboard to tomatoes. It's a work in progress.

A pocket fixed blade is another option, and my favorite gateway drug company fills the bill with their 30th or so iteration on the Razel.

I'm not getting rid of my TOPS Lil Roughneck. It's dumb, it's funny, it fits in my pocket. A less practical, but far more indestructible, option for a pocket fixed blade.

If I was serious about this, I would trade out the kukri for a TOPS Pry-Knife, to keep in the car. It's not a bad idea anyway, it just takes me over the limit.

The easy part:

~3" wharncliffe, sheepsfoot or subtle hawkbill weighing < 2 oz.
~4" spear or leaf point weighing < 5.5 oz
~7-9" Santonku-ish blade
~8" fighter
~15" machete

Not even going to try the hard part.
