These are some folders I made, kept, and used over the years. I have revised Antler and Iron II, an early publication for a CD ebook/PDF and can use color images, something that is cost prohibitive with printing. Dug these out of my shop collection. This is one of the photos.

These are some folders I made and kept.
1. Penny knife, file blade, Osage Orange handle
2. Striker knife, file blade, antler handle, no spring
3. No spring folder, antler handle
4. Mt. Man folder, damascus blade and spring
5. Damascus blade and bolsters brass liners, this one is built much like a modern pocket knife, split antler handle.

Hello Gene: I like those a lot. What would you call the second one down? What would it be used for? Was this pattern something out of history or something you made up? I still like it a lot!

I've never seen a folders like those. My hat is off. I've seen alot of cool knives on this forum since I got the bug and these ones are definately hanging around high on the list of coolest designs I've never seen.

so, are you making a tutorial for these blades then? i would like to know how you made the 4th one "Mt. man folder" i have a lot, and i mean a lot of antler hanging around and i really like the lock system you have there.

John,

The second one is forged from a bastard file, the teeth were ground off the blade edge area to avoid stress in the blade edge area. The back is a flint/striker for sparking for lighting punk/charred cotton in fire starting. Mt. Man style. No historical info on this knife, just an idea I had. I made one that I sold and later wished I hadn't, so made this for my self.

The fourth one down is actually the first folder I have made. Being a novice, at the time, I forged the spring and put the project on hold for a long time, a year. The pin lock spring was a test that didn't work out, the spring sprung while at work and cutting up come heavy cardboard. Anyway, it was a good learning project.

When I was making Mt Man folders for sale, this was the one most folks wanted to buy. The idea and knife was retired.

I don't do any custom knives anymore, make a few small knives for blacksmith conferences once in a while to pay for the conference.

Gene those friction folders are very cool. I want to make a small version of the Mountain Man and carry it daily.

You still make stainless blanks for "Newbies" though right? You going to Eugene next month?

Thanks,

Years ago I used to make damascus for makers but gave that up. I have never sold stainless that I can remember and won't make the Eugene show.
