Thinking about scaling my knife options down this month. I've done the "one knife, one month" thing several times, so I want something a little different, and this sounds like a good balance of diversity and limitation, and maybe a way to get to know a small rotation of knives better.

Now I just have to decide on the 5. What do ya'll think? Anyone else contemplating any carry experiments?

No method to the madness for me. I open my knife drawer and pick what I want to carry for the day. I don't have near as many folders as a lot of folks here, but what I do have, I will carry and use on whatever needs cutting, marks be damned.

I’ve got exactly 5 folders left, but only rotate between two of them. I’m going to unload the other three soon. It’s very satisfying to know that I have found the two best folding knives for me, and I really don’t need any others. If a CRK and Hinderer don’t last me the rest of my life then something’s wrong.

Since I am in California (for right now) and own just as many autos as I do legal knives to EDC, I can do about 5 that I like. I mainly do 2 though that I really love. Protech TR5 SA, Cold Steel Tri-Ad.

I've sorted through mine and need to sell a few *cough cough* ... and buy a new truck or small forest area all to myself ...

but I hate selling them ... just always seems a hassle ... I reckon I'll get around to it and maybe start trying to sell 3 to 5 a week ... at that rate I should be into a good user comfortable number ... in maybe 2 years or so ...

I've seen the knives you post brother, and I think if I had the same ponies in the stable that you have it'd take me at least a month to decide which five to go with. It's a really good idea and I'm excited to see what you decide on :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I can do five folders easy. Three would start getting tough. I’m down to about 10 folders and half of them are rarely carried.
If I had your collection, it would be a tougher decision.
It would be interesting to hear what five we actually carry the most.

This is how I operate as well, besides task specific knives like my Salts. I also usually have a SAK on me and a fixed blade. Sticking to just 5 knives would be tough given that I've just listed at least 3. Luckily I don't feel the need to limit myself. I'll usually stick with the same knives for a few days and switch up when I feel like it.

The kind of pants I wear factors large in my choice of knife to carry for the day. If I really want to get into my collection I'd have to rotate into a lot more pants:)

I random pick every day or even more than once in the same day. However, a new knife, no matter what kind, I carry every day for a week.

My birthday is Xmas week, so for the days leading up to my birthday, I carry every knife I received as a gift for at least a full day.

I pretty much carry one knife for a month or more anyway. Something will suddenly draw me to a specific knife and suddenly that will be the knife I want to consistently carry.

Sometimes I will change it up for a day or a half a day but something forces me back to carrying the one knife that shines to me for that month or so.

For example this month all I have wanted to carry is my new CF bugout. The month before it was small crk 21 and the month before that it was my large 21.

However when I do change it up for a day or so it is often because I will see a picture or something of a particular knife I have looking all sexy and suddenly I will have the urge to carry that knife. I guess I am just a highly suggestible follower. Usually that will wear out after about a day and I will be back to my monthly favourite.

I think that’s a great idea to scale down to five for one month. You really get a sense of each particular knife and in turn, find out more about what you prefer/dislike.

I'd like to permanently slim my folding collection down to three high quality knives and one beater: one sebenza, hinderer, shiro and then a spyderco stretch/pm2.

Alright, got my 5 figured out. Here's my choices:
