I am building my, "dream forge" I can't afford my dream car, so this will have to do.
As you can see, the body of the forge is complete. I am working on the fuel air system at the moment.
This forge will run natural gas. It should be up and running by the end of the month. Wanted to give you a peek.:D

Happy to answer any questions, Fred

:eek: EPA won't let you run that!!!! Can you say GLOBAL WARMING?? :D:D

Can't wait to get a performance report on that. Nice job so far!!

is that a fusion reactor :D. looken good. what lining materal are you going to use

I used a 12"X1/4" section of pipe, for the body. The lining is 3" of Kaowool coated with satinite. The last coat was that of ITC-100.
The next pics to be posted will be the ones taken at the first firing.
I am stoked.
Scotty! give me more power:eek:

Hi Fred,

Thanks for offering the construction info:

1. How long and what is the diameter of that beast?
2. I’m noticing a piece of square tube in the lower portion of the fire box. That looks like an excellent spot to set a longer blade for HT
3. What is the opening size of your forge? That looks like it would handle some intricate geometric shapes for ornamental stuff.
4. Why blown?

Looks like it’ll be a marvel of plumbing work on that one

Kook and I were just talking to IG this afternoon about building a 36” forge for HT sword length objects, and the lower portion of your forge looks ideal for that task.

Thanks for the info.

Larry,
The forge body is 1/4"x12"x24"
I built the metal floor separately. It slides over apiece of angle iron that is welded to the rear of the forge under the round opening. See photo.
I did this for two reasons; so I can rebuild and reline the forge as needed and I thought it might be a good place to soak blades or maybe anneal. Kind of like a warmer oven:D. If you take the face off the forge, you can slide the entire floor out. The floor is made
from 5/16" mild steel. The floor is six inches wide, behind the forge face plate and goes to four inches wide from the face plate to the end. When you put the face plate on, it holds the floor assembly in place.I ended up cutting the bricks to fit sideways, so they covered the entire floor. I have an external thermocouple for the toaster oven so I can keep and eye on both temps at once.
The opening is 4"x4"
This forge has a K thermocouple that will be hooked to a pid controller.
It's a manual fuel/air system along side the one that runs through the pid controller. In a nut shell; low fan/ low gas[manual] and high fan/ high gas [controlled]. I will post more pics when I get this part completed.
As far as using a blower, my gas supply pressure runs around 12 lbs or so. If I add the blower I can turn the pressure to 5 or 6 lbs and produce the same temperatures.
I built this to do cans mostly. An occasional blade of some longer dimension, isn't out of the question; of course.:D

I hope this was of some help to you. Fred

HOLY CRAP!! Nuclear reactor going on here!

U doubt welding will be an issue with this puppy. I cannot wait to see her in roaring action. Thanks for the pics \l.

I wish you could be here for the run up Bro.

I will take plenty of pics.

Fred

Me too Bubba:thumbup:;):D One of these years we will get together.:eek:HEHEHEHEHE!!!
The toaster oven is a cool idea. Lets us know how hot it gets when the forge is running at 1800 deg.

12 pounds gas pressure? Do you have an industrial line?
Nice forge.
Stacy

I am one of those fortunate individuals with gas wells on their property.
The gas I use is piped rite from the well head casing.
