Fix Blade Or Folder?

Nobody says you have to like fixed blades. "He doesn't use fixed blades! Burn him!" :D

Me, I'm a slipjoint fan/user, and if I'm in a situation where I think "A lock might be smart right about now..." I go with a fixed blade.

I never have to worry about lock failure!

Or pivot worries or lockup worries or blade centering issues... I've found myself gravitating more to small FBs in recent years. If I only have one knife with me nowadays, it'll almost always be a smaller FB. Bark Rivers are my usual FB carries for everyday stuff.

bark river gunny by any chance? one day i will own a bark river, when the time and wallet allow. :p
the weekend warriors might be interested in the gunny.

I went on a fixed blade kick for awhile but ended up selling them off because I never really got to use them. Are you tough on your knife? 95% of the time I'm not which is why I prefer folders in the 3.25-3.75" cutting edge range.

i think it's good to have one in your arsenal though. personally i feel more at peace carrying a fixed blade when going camping or backpacking, in addition to a backup folder in the bag. :D

Well I did hold on to a couple Moras... :)

Hi not considering law subject and considering two different environments my point is always a 3" blade always with me.
urban=folder easier to hide and more friendly, I don´t need more
outdoors=fix blade because stronger....I´m waiting for a CS mini Recon 1 to try in this roll (strong lock as strong as a fix blade???) and again easier to hide and carry than a fix blade.

It depends on your intended use and purpose. I feel that if you can carry a fixed blade, it is the preferred choice. As others have mentioned its stronger, less prone to issues, and clean up is a snap. However, for most people, me included, it just doesn't make a lot of sense to EDC a fixed blade, so a folder(or two) is usually in the pocket.

Fixed blades are illegal to carry where I am, but folders with blades up to 4" are ok as long as they're not switchblades or automatics. That said though, I do have a number of fixed blades that I use a lot while fishing and camping. I've also started to keep a fixed blade in the toolboxes of my cars since we have a lot of deer here.

Most of my knives are folders because I can carry them everyday. I'm also a titanium junkie.

Smaller. I have a City Knife, a bolsterless Essential, and a Northstar EDC that are my main carries. I also have a mini-Fox River and a Little Creek as well as 4 or 5 Alan Davis customs. Then I have a custom bushcrafter made by a couple of Georgia boys few years ago if I want something in the Gunny size range.
