I was cleaning my Vic Tinker tonight and noticed that one of the celidor scales seemed loose. I slid a fingernail between the scale and the metal and sure enough it popped off. Anyone have any recommendations on the best way to repair it?

You could epoxy it on, but the only way to replace a scale after it somes off is to buy a new scale. There is a little plastic lip in the scale that clips to the outside of the rivet and once it is removed from the knife, it is no longer any good. The scales are available at many places online for decent prices, although you could spend a couple dollars more and just get a new Tinker. If you did order new scales you could get the plus models, and then you would have a Tinker with a pen, pin, tweezers, and toothpick in the handle. Old scales will often snap back on, but they never feel the same and are a little loose. With the low cost of the kives, epoxy isn't such a bad option.

You could also take the opportunity to try the wood replacement scales that are available. They really add a touch of class to a SAK.

I ran across some of those wood scales during my google searches and was very, very tempted. I'll probably end up getting some in the future. For now though I just used some Propoxy 20 and it worked like a charm.

If you're into alternative scale material, search rotokid (google it). He deals with pre-shaped scales and many accessories & a regular at Sosakonline.com

I'll second the idea for new handle scales. But, if you want to just put it back on, Gorilla Glue is hard to beat. Just put a dab on the pins of the frame, or the small hole that they fit into (on the handle) and press for about 30 seconds. Don't use too much or you won't be able to put the toothpick and tweezers back in.
