Fixed blade advice needed...

I was never into fixed blades. But recently I was thinking about getting me one fixed blade for some tasks, and then I can easy carry my slipjoint knives....

I'm not much into outdoors, and don't have some serious hardcore tasks... More or less nothing that strong folder couldn't do... But on the other hand, I'd like to have some serious strong and capable fixed blade in my backpack/car... Just in case...

It will work arround yard, maybe some battoning, some outdoor times like BBQ and stuff like that...

I was looking at ESEE knives, but would like to see more options!!

Thanks

Ka Bar / Becker:
BK2
BK7
BK 17 (new)
USMC KaBar

All are tried and true bulletproof favorites for all your "just in case" moments!

I like the Beckers more than the ESEEs, but that's purely motivated by personal issues. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Becker BK7 is one of the most versitile knives you can find for the money. Check them out or come see us in the BKT forum, we've got answers, and would love to help.

Too true. I've got mine!

But ... Randalls have ... style!!

I must admit that the ESEE 4 is my favorite all-around knife. I love Walmart, but they don't have the best knife prices--search online (e.g., Knifeworks, Cutlery Shoppe, New Graham Knives, Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop, etc.).

Look at Mora knives. It sounds like they're just what you need. I personally wouldn't baton a ton with one. But if you know what you're doing you could. Though most people who baton, don't really need to...

I bought an ESEE a while back. Great knife, but $100, as opposed to $10 for the Mora. And I find myself reaching for a Mora more often than not. Wouldn't purchase a fixed blade like that again, most likely.

Wait...but what about size preference and price range?

You live in Serbia, I bet you dont have Wal-Marts.

Moras are big in Europe try to find a Mora Bushcraft Survival Knife or maybe 127 of them.

Just what I was going to say. I have a Mora 546G and love it. I cleaned 3 deer this archery season and it was still pretty sharp. I re-sharpened it anyway, which took about a second on a flat diamond stone (from my DMT aligner kit). Hair popping sharp, and it came that sharp originally BTW. I was so impressed, I ordered a sheath from Grizzly that cost 3X what the knife did, and it comes with the firesteel (removable). I'll probably buy a second knife as backup (about $11 US) and my fixed blade duties are covered for life (hunting, fishing, camping). I have a Rapala filet knife, which IMO are the best in the world, and found everywhere. So, I do have another fixed blade. My buddy has the "clipper" model Mora, same basic size, but in carbon steel without the finger guard, and a rubberized grip. He was batoning wood with it, just to see how it would do, and it did well. I see why the bushcraft crowd likes the Moras. Very light too.

mora classic 3 is nice. 6 inch blade is nice as well. cheap and effective and an awesome edge right out of the box if you cant sharpen.

You can get a condor rodan(5" blade), varan(8" blade) Toloza(6" blade), Kephart(4.5" blade), or Hudson Bay(8.5" blade). Not one of these knives will cost you more than $60 and that's the toloza, the rest are around $25-35 and they are all made of 1075 high carbon steel which is pretty good and easy to maintain. Here's some pics of the condor knives and a few others that are less than $100 would be an Esee 4, Ontario TAK, TFI, RAT 5 or 7, RTAK, SOG Seal Pup or Aura Camp knife, and one really nice one that is made of D2 steel with a 6" blade is called the Rold and is made by Boker. This one is designed by danish knifemaker Jesper Voxnes and will run you anywhere from about $112 all the way up to $169 if you buy it from Boker.
Here's the Boker Rold(6" blade)

Well I hope this helps you out, I tried to cover all the basic sizes for a good fixed blade knife and I tried to keep them in a decent price range. And I hope for whatever reason I don't get infracted for this post as I've done many posting like this before telling people models, prices and sources to get them and never got in trouble. Other than that I don't know what else you could be referring to Samuel, but I took out the store/website names just in case.
