Just joined kinda new to knives. always just carried pocket knives on the farm for work. Firearms have always kinda been my thing, but now knives are working there way into draining my bank account.

Hoping to get some advice on steels from people who know alot more then me. I'm wanting to get a fixed blade for my bag, my trips vary alot. sometimes I'm hiking in alaska winter or in caves in NC/TN and a few trips in canyons in Utah. I'm wanting a kinda do all knife as far as camp chores making fires small tender feather sticks ect. I never use my knives to baton through wood. I carry a silky saw and gransfors bruks small forest axe for actual firewood. So unless it's in a very desperate pinch there shouldn't be any major abuse. I'm mostly worried about corrosion but with still decent toughness, I thought about trying some magnacut, between the caves and just over all humidity in alot of places I'm wet alot all freshwater. I'm pretty much never in saltwater. wanting something bigger then my mora companion but smaller then my esee 6, I like the size of my half face blades crow jr but it's 3v and I was told it's corrosion resistance isn't the best so it never made it in my bag.

Sorry post is so long tried to answer all the baseline questions people might base there advice on sure I missed some.

Excellent choice! he is a good man, and very skilled at his trade. he does a lot with very little. he has an excellent eye for detail, runs his knives at a great hardness, and I won't bore you with the details, but they are much more efficient slicers than most knives out there. You can spend alot of time in his sub forum looking at the "Photo Thread" and generally what's available. His knives have become the standard by which I compare all others.

Andy Roy at "Fiddleback Forge" is amazing as well. though I appreciate him, his products run a bit above my level of affordability.

I'm sure there are a ton of great choices, those are the only two I feel qualified to remark on. I should check out some of the other makers myself. thinking about it more, Crag The Brewer just started a sub forum. I've only interacted with him peripherally, but I have a feeling his philosophies aren't a far cry different than my own. his is entitled "Thanks"

Have fun hunting up what suits ya'. it's acting like Spring here in Alaska, so I'm doing a lot of thinkin' about knives and such myself.

Appreciate it i shot david a email hopefully I hear something later in the week.

I don't know how often they are in stock, but I did see that they make a crow jr in Magnacut. Could sell or trade the 3V for the Magnacut version.
I'm wanting something a little bigger then the crow jr, preferably around 10 inches over all i think the crow jr is 8.8 or 7.8. id also love it to be a sheepfoot blade. it seems very rarely they come out with much magnacut. they've had the same 2 blades on there for months and haven't sold out.

You talk to me about that's "strike one" like I'm 7.

No, I was being transparent with you, and setting expectations and boundaries because I’m quite busy and the guys I serve deserve me spending more time on them than having to deal with bad communication. Someone over seven might understand that.
