Fixed Blade and Folder Combo

These are made by a relatively new company called North Mountain Blade, and I have three of their folders which I think are exceptional.

And the fixed blade has the highly controversial San mai blade, the behind the edge thickness is a bit thicker than the folders but I sharpened it up with a convex edge and it cuts quite nicely. The leather sheath that comes with it is also very nice and shows great attention to detail that I haven’t seen in most other competitors sheaths.

Love the folders.

I feel like I've posted a few past favorite combos in here already, but I've been packing these two most of the summer. SAK Fieldmaster which is on me at all times, paired with a very old Western "Black Beauty" whenever I'm camping, in the bush, or on the water. Most other combo's I've carried, outside of hunting season, I've always felt there was too much overlap to really make much sense. To me it seems like the 5" blade takes over nicely at just about the same point that the SAK is hitting its limitations.

Absolutely LOVE your Western. That was my first fixed blade, picked out and bought with my own money, back in the early 60s.

Such memories that brings back. Thanks for sharing that treasure 😎❤️🍻

Yeah, that one belonged to my grandfather, some time after his death my grandmother rounded up a few meaningful items that hadnt been claimed and sent them to me. Most notibly the knife, but I also got an old Gillette safety razor that I've shaved with ever since, as well as a pair of snowshoes and some old traps that hang on my wall.

I didnt use it for the longest time because it didnt come with a functional sheat. Last winter I finally got around to learning how to make functional, though somewhat crude sheaths and am excited to take it hunting this fall.
