Fixed blade, around 4", in a 'super steel' for under 200.00?

So I'd really like to try one of these newer steels I keep reading about...(Maxamet, Cru Forge V, come to mind)

The primary purpose of this blade will be for general cutting tasks likely involving mostly boxes and zipties. Probably no chopping, so I'm looking for something nice and slicey.

Pretty much I'd like to see what these things perform like at the crazy hardnesses I've been seeing stated.

Any idea where to start?

If M390 meets your qualifications, it's hard to beat the Lionsteel M4 for the price

I could be mistaken, but aren't Bradford Guardians about $180?

Bradford's a great option, another one is to check out the Knife Maker's Exchange. Lots of different blades running a wide variety of steels. I've seen some crazy good deals go through over there. Caused a lot of envy on my part, haha.

Talk to Gollik at Gollik knives. He is here and has Facebook and website. You can get a knife from him in Elmax, Vanadis 4E, or Speipner. A nice Elmax fixed blade is a great option, plus his prices are killer! Vanadis 4 if you are not worried about corrosion resistance. He is definitely worth talking with.
This fella uses M390, Vanadis 4, and VANADIS 10! I have been on the fence about the Vanadis 10 knife here for a few weeks, really want that knife!

Bradford knives are great, so are Lionsteel

Elmax and M390(20CV) are great choices if you are looking for a maintenance-free knife!

I second this, many makers here put out top quality custom blades. Good people, great quality.

As many people have said, Lionsteel M4. Love mine. A Bradford Guardian 4 would be a fantastic choice too.

Big Chris will make a super slice thin beam, but I dunno price at 4"...he's using some fancy steels like Gollik.

My Manix 2 in maxamet (what's another $50 when one is already on the market for a $200 blade?) is making it's way on some people's top 10 lists...

Is anyone here aware of a company other than Spyderco currently making pocket/field knives in maxamet?

+1 for a Bradford Guardian. I'm not really into fixed blades, but that is one of the few I own, and it's killer.

Even better if you get an Armatus Carry custom sheath to go with it.

ZT tried it a little ways back, but they had a hit rate of about 50% (iirc) on the HT, so the run is largely considered a flop due to how many are faulty.

That being said, the ones that are good tend to fetch a premium due to the limited availability of functional models.
This makes me question how many good ones there are actually out there. If you aren't buying a user, how do you know if it is any good? You could be buying a bad HT'd knife, and gave no idea...

Now I just bought a Bradford G4 with Micarta scales ... its the Full Flat Grind ... I have to say its about like a laser straight out of the box its sharp!!! ... I got mine in M390 and can already tell you there will be another on its way soon. Just have to figure out which size and steel and options but I'm throughly impressed by this Bradford ... The CRK Nyala now that it comes in a Satin finish is alot of knife for the cost ... feels great to carry and use and the S35VN is strong holds up all day and isnt to hard to touch up back to shaving hair.
