Just what I was going to say! We have a lot of wild blackberries around here. Also vines half an inch thick with thorns an inch long, which seem to jump out at you when you pass by.

I like a sawback machete. Forward swing cuts, back swing clears the path.

After get in a ways not to big deal to clear a path.
Start clearing a visible one here and within 3 months have atv’s cutting in leaving trash hanging from trees or in the road.
I’ve hauled out truck loads of trash.

Thats what I was thinking lol 4' briar patches.

A walk through a wild blackberry overgrown area is another one to avoid. They get over 4ft and will shred you.

I look right at those areas and say nope. Walk around.
So you’re saying you’ve never hunted the Wylie ringtail, and had them head for thick brush, had to go get your dog, or game ya took down?

I’ll bet a 300lb boar comes charging down the trail you’ll hit that kind of brush. 😁

And they do make briar chaps for raccoon and few other type hunters who do go into heavy brush.

I've had whitetail run through brush and tracked it. I've also had hogs I was raising get out and wander around the wilderness for hours and I go looking for them lol I've spent considerable time in the upper peninsula of michigan off the beaten path.

If it was life or death and I had to throw myself into 7ft hawthorn bushes? Yea I guess being jabbed by a jillion needles it is. Short of that, there ain't no flipping way I am intentionally walking through it LOL

I bush hogged 7 acres of wild blackberry last summer, it would reach skin through jeans. I'll leave that for the manly men who enjoy a rough time. 😁

Double pants, or the heavy canvas carhart (if they still make them) work pretty good.
They also make chaps for it.

Them hawthorns will go through shoes, no carhartt I ever seen is stopping them. Blackberry yes. Hawthorn not a chance.

Hawthorns, honey locust and black locust I’ll avoid. No way I’d want to even walk under a big one of the latter 2 let alone through a patch. Those thorns like to fall off and hide under leaf litter.
I’ll leave those for big foot. 😁
Briars don’t bother me so much.

Wouldn’t care em walk under a hawthorn either.
Not many here I’ve seen.
Those three + Osage orange are some serious trees.

Fair enough, we all draw the line somewhere lol Here I was thinking like damn, these dudes are nuts they'll walk through any thicket or patch thorns just because.

Honey locust is rough too, nope nope nope. I have honey locust trees out back that are the thornless variety and with thorns. Needless to say mowing under the thorns is a real pain in the ass. I'll trim them suckers back this year.

Bastinelli sells a shoulder rig system consisting of shoulder straps and a leather plate to for mounting an existing sheath. A little pricey, but the idea could easily be scavenged from looking at the design. I have one and can attest it is well made and good to go out of the box.

Another I try to avoid are wild roses. They get huge thorns too.
Most places I can find a game tunnel through briars and brambles to crawl through for a ways then able to start walking some. Still gonna get scratched.
I usually don’t know I’ve been scratched until I see it later. Or notice blood. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’ve carried a fixed off and on for years and just dealt with moving and sliding it around.
Looking for a carry I set and forget.
I may be looking for something doesn’t exist, which is one way to carry a fixed for all environments even wearing overalls.
I have no issues carrying a 4” in tool pocket of carpenter jeans (actually preferential due to ease of access as much as I use a knife) or hip belt in normal day to day tasks, but get in woods, floor joists, rafters, in and out of vehicles, working on fence, working with dogs it invariably gonna snag something.

The most out of the way in regards to environment is horizontal small of the back. But boy does it hurt me for a couple days after a day of getting in and out of vehicle driving a lot, or sitting in tree stand.
I carry a Bradford G3 cross draw at 45degeee in front for my food and smaller tasks.
Carrying a more useful length comfortably is my conundrum.

I don't do it that often, but I'll occasionally carry a Bradford Guardian 3 in kydex, attached to a tek lok on my backpack strap. It places it vertical on my chest, blade up. Some days I'm using my knife over and over for just a few seconds each time. Getting it back under my jacket and other layers can get annoying.

I saw theirs.
I found 1 of theirs that I’d be willing to pay price for.
Is the drop down for sheath attachment leather too?
I’ve got a kydex sheath coming I think might fit well.

That too.
I use G4 more because of ease of access being in tool pocket and kydex. Just reach, use, drop back in sheath and snap. No clothing to move.
With my Rex45 and CPM M4 blades I watch my kydex usage pretty closely because of humidity. Haven’t had much problem since I put patina on but still cautious on a hot humid day when I’m going into icy buildings and back out in the heat.

I have snake chaps that work real well against thorns, too. Maybe not against hawthorn, but those are widely scattered around here, so it's easy to bypass them.

It's amazing how much trouble some people will go to, hauling trash out into natural areas, sinkholes, and so on, when they could take it to one of numerous county dump sites for free.

The plate is indeed decent leather. Just make sure you have some solid mounting hardware (maybe with a touch of blue Loctite).

Trash situation is really aggravating.

Maybe some of the issues is my tall, narrow waist, lanky frame.
I don’t know.
Many seem to have success with and love the scout carry.
I’ve tried, clips, straps, leather horizontal sheaths, loose shirts, snug shirts, and it still just sticking out like a thumb hitching a ride. Even a fixed 3 inch sticks out with scout carry.
So far what has helped has been sheath with 45 degree angle.
Experimented some more today repositioning straps several times on and armatus taco style and this is the best I got after an hour. 😞
