Fixed Blade Cattaraugus 225 Q question

My Uncle's from WW II was my field knife for years. I only retired it because it did not want too much blade loss dues to sharpening. It's a family heirloom.

Yeah, I almost as a rule in Knives and Guns have "workers" meaning ones I am willing to actively carry(and thus subject to the things carry guns/knives get subjected to) I dont really own anything I just "collect" or am scared to carry. Im doing the old..Keep this as its kinda a "piece of history" type deal and just as you said(though mine isnt in my family as it was a garage sale $5 knife :) ) and maybe pass it to my son. OR just use it as my out door knife...Im leaning to just getting a cheap fixed blade and keeping this one as a nice piece of history.

I've brought back leather handles by using mink oil on the, but I warmed up the handle with a blow dryer to allo it to soak in better. Nice knife and great score!

I'll second this. I have done the same wht an old dried out USAF knife and sheath. I used Obenauf's Leather Oil . Put it on and just left it sit in the warm place by the wood stove for a few days, putting more on each day. Worked well. Obenaufs is great stuff.
