Fixed blade edc 3”

Whether this means buying a used one and adding the scales or buying a new one doesn’t matter to me.

I think a two knife sheath for these two would be about perfect. A Buck Ron Hood knife is about as nice of a knife as it gets. It's a shame they are discontinued. Full flat grind 5160 steel and Micarta handle. I took the paint off my user Thug. It's a great knife. The thug and punk are my favorites. If I was ever put in a position to only have 2 knives these would be it.

I always thought the buck thorn would make a great EDC knife too but I think it's been disc'ed for a while. I always liked thin handles for EDC fixed blades so they carry nice under regular clothes or in a pocket sheath.

How long is the actual cutting edge on the Buck open season small game knife? I know the website says it’s 4 1/4” but is that the actual cutting edge length?

This fixed blade carry situation is very popular in the Southwest, especially among Horse folks. You will see small fixed blades in fancy belt sheaths at 'cowboy' occasions. Outdoorsmen like to wear them also. I have seen longer bladed fixed blades carried in original belt sheaths but they seem out of place. Knives viewed by me look like they are about 3 to 4 inch blades but usually have a fancy type scale also.
The Gen 5's fit that description as do a few others mentioned. A forward canted sheath will likely require the services of a custom maker. I put stag scales on one of the little Buck neck knives but it was not deemed suitable by me for several reasons.

OP was asking about a fixed blade, so you 307, 301 or 110 cowpokes don't jump on me. I have only ridden a tiny amount, but don't own a horse or even scratch ones nose. ( When I win one of those fancy elk hunts I will give it a go) For city use something at or near 3 inch in nice tooled sheath will draw less attention all around than a bigger model in the standard black sheath. 300Bucks

Yes something like that gen 5 is exactly what I’m looking for. Would like something just a little cheaper though.

I'm always intrigued by EDC threads because they reveal such big differences in what every day knife means to different people, along with differences in carry preferences.

I tend to get frustrated by 3" blades for EDC use but then, I often use my EDC knives for food prep (such as lunch) or when in the woods and in both cases, I prefer something closer to 4". But that's just me and I suspect I'm in the minority on that.

I wish Buck would do more full flat grinds in general. Or thin saber grinds.

I have a Reaper (a poor man's Thug, sort of) and IMO it would be a much better knife for its intended purpose it if was either full flat grind like most of the Ron Hood designs or saber ground (what Buck calls a flat grind).

Thats a really nice pairing.

Question of the day for me. Do I strip the paint off Jr in the picture there to match the Thug. lol.

The August Buck of the Month is a really good looking knife. I have a weak spot for green canvas micarta and a black blade just sets it off.
