Fixed blade edc question

I made a pocket sheath for my Brisa Necker that I tether to my belt loop with a watch chain. The end of the handle is barely visible, so the only funny looks I get are due to my appearance and not my knife.
I carry my EnZo (Brisa) Necker in the kydex sheath with out clip in a pocket on my cargo shorts.

From all I have read/learned, hard sheaths are the best. (Believe it’s called “Kydex”)

As apposed to another cheap material...

I carry this knife in this pocket sheath in my left front pocket. Blade is 2 1/2 inches, handle about 3 1/4 inches.

If I was to EDC any other fixed blade it would have to be comfortable in a similar set up. I'm not really interested in going around town, with a large fixed blade strapped to my belt.
O.B.

What length you are comfortable handle-wise is the question.
Check out the REK Ember...I’ve been EDCing it for a number of weeks now, and its small and capable.

@hhmoore Good on ya for in town edcing the Quarantine!! Haha. Love it!

Hi all,
I have been wanting to start carrying a fixed blade as an edc, I do carry them when working and hiking but not when shopping or doing regular tasks. Question i have is what is a good size that won't make people give you weird looks and wont seem out of place? I live in San Antonio Texas so basically everything can be carried but I don't want to make people uncomfortable, this is a tool mainly and a weapon second for me. I understand that some people will always feel wierd seeing a knife on the belt, but for those of you that do edc a fixed blade, what size do you stay under?

In Texas I do not think you can carry any knife. The law states that 5.5" is a maximum blade length, so you should start there. I don't know what stores are in San Antonio but if you ever make your way up to Ft Worth go to House of Blades and look around one of the most impressive knife stores that I have ever been to. I lived there in the 1980's so things might be different. Whatever you choose I would say keep it discreat if not concealed. I used to see a guy all the time in public with a 7 inch Kbar on his belt and he looked like an a-hole.

the Texas law confused me a bit, I know we can carry any type of blade now, auto and such, but the wording of the rest im not 100%. Anyone can carry under 5 1/2 anywhere but over 5 1/2 can be carried in non restricted areas i thought? Like schools and government buildings, i could be wrong, and please correct me if i am, but that was my understanding of it

Hey dude. I pocket carry my fixed blades. The ESEE Izula covers about 99% of my needs. A blade just shy of 3” is perfectly usable for me. An Izula especially with a green or satin finish should be as sheeple-friendly as they come.

Sometimes I take out the Mora Kansbol or Cold Steel Kobun when I want some extra cutting edge, but their butt ends stick out of the pocket a bit.

Personally, I’d avoid open carry in crowded areas. I don’t like announcing I’ve got steel on me.

I like that alot, good size blade and blends in with your pants and belt, unless someone was really looking they wouldn't even see you carrying it

3 inches is just around the sweet spot where you can carry a knife both on your belt but also in your front pocket. This will give you a lot of flexibility. It's also a great size for EDC.

As already demonstrated, draping your shirt/sweater/whatever over it does a lot to conceal it, sometimes even completely hiding it (Depending on your method of carry).

7 to 7.5" overall length is about as long as I'm generally comfortable carrying on my belt for an edc. I prefer about 7" or a little less. I don't mind a 3-finger grip as generally these edc type fixed blades aren't used roughly. They are more a convenience.

Interesting.... when discussing edc type fixed blades, I think in terms of overall length versus blade length.

I generally just use a vertical belt sheath, but horizontal carry sheaths are more discrete. Nobody really pays any attention to either carry approach in stores and so forth. I find that I have to sharpen mine more frequently as I often will dig weeds out of my yard when I'm wandering around. For that reason, I try to consciously use a factory knife versus handmade around the house. So, I'm switching knives from time to time.

I often have the same knife on my belt wandering around the woods simply because it was already on my belt. Really don't cut much of anything in the woods that a folder can't handle. This is one I carry away from my yard (Arno Bernard Squirrel)

I carry both cross draw and even with my relatively thin torso, 32 inch waste, they disappear pretty nicely.

I prefer the Benchmade but I wish the sheath could be detached without undoing my belt. 20200815_183843.jpg 20200907_093427.jpg

Have you looked into the “Ka-Bar Law Enforment”? Very nice knife, well made. The sheath that comes with it originally is trash, but there are after-market sheaths that are excellent.
