Hello!

I was looking to get and try a fixed knife for EDC -- belt carry.

I want a kydex sheath with tek-lock or Spyderco belt clip.

Several that come to mind are Spyderco Street Bowie, Spyderco Bill Moran, Spyderco Mule, maybe ESEE-3 or some fine pieces from BRKT and BHK/LTWright.

My main concern is how comfortable would be these knives on belt, right side at around 3-4 o'clock position? Also, I like Street Bowie very much, but what do you thing about it's length for EDC? But I like that it is lightweight.

Thanks a lot!

Street Bowie is very light for its size, but is long. If you are not trying to conceal the knife it should be very comfortable. I also like the Street Beat. It can be carried horizontal with ease and is very noce, but a bit smaller than most you mentioned.

Yep, a) I need something with lower profile, on belt but covered with a jacket or coat, and b) I'm afraid Street Beat won't cut it because of the shorter handle.

Swick 4, maybe?

The scales are added on Halperns.

The Moran designed models might make a good compromise as they have a slightly larger blade than the Street Beat, but not nearly as long as the Street Bowie, and have a good sized handle. The Moran fixed blades do have a very small tang though, but if you are not doing anything heavy duty with them, it probably doesn't matter. Based on your reply, I am still not sure whether this will be a concealed carry item, but if you intend on carrying the Street Bowie and just covering it with a shirt or jacket, they will have to be quite long. Inside the waistband would solve that, but would not be as comfortable.

Bradford guardian 3. Horizontal carry at your 1200. Either leather or kydex sheaths. Wonderfully capable knife in m390!

I don't know how technical you want to go on the sheath but the original DPx HEST fixed blade by Rowen is a great carry.

I'd have to go with the Bradford Guardian also.

I'll try to get a picture later, but I use a simple soft belt loop, the sort typically found made of rubber with a pull-the-dot snap used for IWB carry, and wrapped it around the outside of the sheath on my Strider SLCC. It allows for horizontal carry, and can be put on or taken off without having to remove my belt.

Dozier Companion. Comes with a great kydex sheath. It is very concealable. Got one and it is the only knife that works well for me w without a custom sheath.

Kabar Becker BK-14 or BK-24 with new handles and custom sheath works.

Thank you for all your input.

It won't be a concealed carry, just on belt, covered by usual cold weather closing: jackets, coats, sweaters. Because of that I think the length is important; also, it should be comfortable when you sit in the car.

I also looking at Bill Moran models. And Dozier offerings look great.

Take a look at the benchmade 15008 steep country. I picked one up a few weeks back and i cant put it down. I bought it as a woods blade (im a fan of smaller knives, i dont like these 6 plus inch mini machetes) but i have been edcing recently because of how much i love it! Its made of s30v steel, has a strong tip, full tang, and it fits perfectly in the hand with an amazing grippy handle. The sheath is kydex but its not full kydex, its held in place by a snap closure instead of actual retention, but all in all its the best edc and outdoors fixed blade ive ever used. If you can front the $100 then i would absolutely say go for it!

I second the dpx hest and hest II which fit same kydex(?) sheath. Also the 4" models have really comfy handles.

My go-to fixed blade for hiking and camping is the Camillus Barbarian, which is one of their few US-made models. The dimensions and materials were similar to the ESEE 3, but the price of the Camillus with a kydex sheath and Tek-Lok mount was the same as the ESEE without a sheath, thus keeping it within my budget. I initially carried it horizontally on my belt, but have since switched to upside-down carry on a backpack strap since I typically have an IWB handgun holster at 3 o'clock.

I love the look of the street/bowie but I would be concerned about the handles comfort, it may be awkward for extended use. I highly recommend the becker BK-24, the D-2 kicks ass in edge retention. Has become my new EDC and it's cheap enough you could get a kydex guy on the forum and have him make you exactly the sheath you want for fairly cheap. Good luck in your choice

There is alot to choose from but a BRKT Gunny has always been comfortable for me and looks good too! Also swamp rat and scrapyard knives make some nice fixed blades in the size your looking at along with Busse and they got plenty of skilled sheath makers to accommodate your needs!

Check on the fix blade customs on exchange here. Thee are some nice blades on there that may be in your price range. The heat treat on some of these blades leaves production models in the dust and you get a pride in ownership that in my mind you just don't get with too many product pieces. Russ

Been edc(ing) a Dozier straight personal. Awesome for this purpose. The sheath is top notch too. Very handy little knife.

Bark river - mini canadian, and mini northstar are ones i have carried
A. G. Russell - woodswalker is good
Esee 3 is excellent
Blackjack tac ops 4 is nice but a little big
