Fixed blade edc

So I got my first fixed blade around 3 months ago (the crkt minimalist) and it's made me love having a fixed blade around. I was looking into getting a slightly larger knife, something like the esee 3 or izula 2, and was curious as to the kind of attention a slightly larger blade pulls when used in public. Any insight or experiences would be awesome

I got the izula 2 as my primary edc for work. I'm in landscaping and masonry, I don't exactly pull it out when I'm in the middle of a public place though. I'd tend to pull out my Spyderco Delica 4 when around people

Indeed .
Lately I have had a strider wp spear point (it's actually a sweet little knife)
On my left side and my right gets what ever folder for the day ..
But if I'm going near sheep then I take a friendly folder and keep the rest outa sight outa mind..
Both of your choices are solid knives pick what you want but nowadays unless your out camping (and even then in some places not here thank God )

People might give you the crazy prepper , mall ninja look . I never gave a carp .

I did have a guy call my benchmade large onslaught a pocket sword (not far off):)

See, I had thought about carrying a small folder with me also for that reason. Was kind of worries about being redundant though

...redundancy pays dividends in the long run chief. I've got over 150 freefall jumps and have only needed a reserve once, but I was so glad I had it when I needed it.

Just like an unloaded weapon has no place in the woods

(People up here have been mauled because they where trying to be "safe" thinking they would have enough time to rack a round)

I carry a rat 3 in a cross draw on my belt daily at work and it gets no attention, I am in the military though so we are all used to seeing weapons everyday. Even when I carry it in civilians I don't notice anyone acting different.

I think something like the ESEE 3 is great choice given its available in orange - most sheeple see brightly coloured things as "safe". I carry a Spyderco Rescue folder along with a Dozier Sub Compact fixed blade - If anyone asks the Spyderco has rescue written on the handle so it can be easily explained and the Sub Compacts blade is under 2 inches long and almost "cute" in appearance.

It's common sense though, wave a knife around like an idiot you'll be noticed! 😉

I carry the Bradford Guardian 3 every day. I think the leather sheath gives it a tool like appearance. In an concelaed and open carry state like mine, I'm not sure if a knife really gets that much attention though.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input it has actually been helpful! Probably going to edc the izula 2 and carry a folder for more sensitive situations, see how it plays out. Thanks

I get no extra attention that I've noticed. Well, I take that back, some people do look a little quizzical but I don't pay attention to them and they don't say anything. I don't go around carrying a katana or anything ridiculous though. Nice, understated, well done fixed blades in understated sheaths don't tend to draw much attention. Carry a Busse Battle Mistress into Victorias Secret and you may get some people freaking out a little. Carry a Waki sheathed on your back into a kids playground and stand around looking creepy, you'll probably find someone who'll take some issue. Go to an Applebee's and start stabbing the table and playing the pirate's game with your Mtech knife with skulls all over it and someone may call the cops. Carry a decent, tasteful knife and don't be stupid and look like a decent human being and most people won't care.

It really depends on your environment. I spend half my time at a ranch in the mountains, and the other half in my country's biggest city.

The chaps at my ranch laugh at any knife with a blade shorter than 5"-6", they've called my ESEE 3 a keychain knife. They all carry huge fixed blades openly everyday (quite normal for rural workers around here, seen almost as a basic clothing item).

On the other hand, at some of the places in the city something as tiny as an Izula will raise a few eyebrows.

I've found that "pretty" knives are seen as less threatening. I use a Charles May FireAnt, a BRK&T Mini Canadian or a Case desk knife when wearing a suit; they all have nice wood handles and leather sheaths. Nobody ever said anything about them, they are tiny and cute. One of my favourite fixed blade urban EDC knives is the Fallkniven WM1, small as it is a few people hace made silly remarks about it once or twice.

I always carry a SAK or small Leatherman no matter what else is in my pockets, not only are they handy but they are the perfect knife to use in public when you want to keep a low profile.

ill be carrying what JDX is doing, once i get my delica 4 back.. other then that i have had no issues cayying the izula 2 on my belt. if needed i just cover it with my shirt.

I've been carrying a couple of the smaller Survive Knives GSO instead of a folder. Really enjoyed the ease of use and build confidence they have over a folder.

I recently picked up the cold steel mini Pendleton hunter. I paid around 30$ and I love it! About 6 inches overall,VG1 steel and a secure x sheath (cold steels name for kydex). You should definitely look into it.

Take a look at me... This is how I look every day, wherever I go.

And I always have a 10-12" fixed blade on me... Open carry. No problems.

This is me (some of me anyways). I've been openly carrying this 10+" fixed-blade in urban San Diego for almost a decade (including today). I carry it into stores, restaurants, and when I'm just out riding. No one has ever said a negative word about it. No one has ever freaked out. None of the many cops who have seen me carrying it has ever said a word about it. And to my knowledge no one has ever called the cops on me.

A few people have commented on it, but most of them were just curious and politely inquired about it. One asked if it was legal. And one erroneously insisted that it was illegal. He didn't want to believe me when I explained that it wasn't. Just another typical know-it-all who was sure he was right. But he wasn't a jerk about it. I just smiled, thanked him for his concern, and went on my way.

I usually carry a folder as well for small tasks. But sometimes the only knife I carry is my fixed-blade. As far as using it in public, if I feel I have the need, I use it. On a few occasions I've used it to help other people. And all I heard from them was "Thank you so much".

Given that you like the Minimalist (I love mine, have them all!)

and you want to go larger size, but not specify how much larger,

I'd stay with CRKT and check out the SPEW (it's just like a beefed up Minialist Wharncliff) or Obake
or even larger, the Dragon (add another inch, make it slimmer, stabbier and there you have it),
or a bit larger the Yukanto
or a big, scary beast, the Hissatsu!

They all have similar steels

similar construction and design

and excellent sheath!

I always carry a fixed blade, sometimes a Busse TG-M, sometimes a TGLB, and then I carry the Battle Saw with 11" of blade and 16" overall, no one gives me crap about it.
