Fixed blade EDC

So many fixed knives to pick from it's hard to make up ones mind, the Rat D3 the hardness says 58-60 RC is that hard enough to be durable and not brittle.
Thanks Willieboy for telling me about on scene tactical nice site prices are right up my alley for a better sheath.

Well I'm going to the Baltimore knife and gun show at the timonium fair grounds this weekend maybe I can find something there at a good price. Also trying to find a good price on the springfield armory XD 9mm with the 5 inch barrel.

Thanks for all the help if you can think of anything else please post.

Get a folder -
1) you will not save money on fixed blade (and don't forget the sheath)
2) to be it comfortable fixed blade needs to be very small - in that size you will get larger blade in folder
Lies.

You will save money. Comparing a folder and fixed blade of equal quality, the fixed blade will almost always be cheaper since it is FAR easier to make. Less complicated, less parts, less fitments.

Fixed blades can be just as comfortable to carry as folders. I carry fixed blades with up to 4-inch blades and do not even notice them at all. They are just as comfortable as a Leek in my pocket.

And let's not forget that fixed blades are also stronger (all things equal), have less compromised designs (in terms of handle and blade ratio and shape), are more reliable over time (no springs, pivots, or mating surfaces to wear), and are faster to draw and return.

Anyways... I had a RAT-3 and found the ergonomics to be awful. If I didn't use the choil, my hand felt like it was going to slip off the back end. If I did use the choil, I felt like my index and middle fingers were going to be ripped apart (as the hump behind the choil is very wide and bulky).

The Activator in CF/G-10 or the Red Wood is better looking, and more ergonomic. The Kydex sheath for the activator also beats the RAT-3 plastic sheath by a long shot.

The Bark River Imp makes a really nice fixed-blade EDC. I chose that over the Benchmade. In fact, mine's with me right now. Usually, I'd slip it into my pocket (fits quite nicely), but today it's on my belt (Buck 110 in pocket).
The TUSK from Bark River is another excellent little utility fixed blade, if you like wharncliffes.
Mikro-Canadian and Mini-Canadian (also from Bark River) are great options (I have a Mikro, and it's a sweet little cutter).
Aside from those, check out Gene Ingram's offerings. He makes a wide selection of pocket-sized fixed blades, at very reasonable prices.

I have been carrying a Benchmade Snody Activator in D2. It's a small knife with excellent ergos and a nice blade steel. Easy to slip into a pocket. I bought it (NIB) on a Swedish auction site for approx $ 60.

Check out the NRA Snody made by Benchmade!
I have other more expensive knives but nearly always choose to take this one !!!

Just take care. States vary but many don't allow fixed blade carry regardless of blade length IE..My home state, Michigan. State law allows the carry of a folder of ANY blade length as long as it is not carried with "illegal intent." Fixed blades are illegal except if carried while legally hunting.

One of my favorite FB is CRKT Companion.I paid about $35.00.Shaving sharp and comes with 2 sheaths.Cheap sheaths, yes but I wear mine IWB and I don't have to much rattle and it is servicable.Spyderco Temperence and Gryphon M-10 (older ATS 34) are some others I have.
