I am looking to buy a fixed blade EDC knife. Ive got a number of pocket knives but sometimes it seems like I could use a fixed blade too/instead.

What comes to mind most is when i need more strength than a folder and when i want something that cant get dirty inside. The thing im always thinking is when i need a knife to cut steak at a potluck. A folder could get meat juices inside and thats not so good.

My girlfriend ordered me a spyderco dayhiker but at 10.5 inches in length it seems a bit large for EDC. It has a 4.75 inch blade and 5.5 inch handle. The next size up would be nice too at 6 inches but that might not make much of a difference, but thats only if i get a different knife for EDC.

I have always heard good thinks about fallkniven. The F1 specifically. This seems like a good knife, not too big, not to small. VG-10.

I was thinking about sog's field pup but the handle looks a little cheap.

Made in USA, japan or good european country.
Willing to spend around $100.00

fallkniven makes very good knives.

check agrussell.com. he has many different types of knives that may fit the bill.

i would check out the new spyderco perrin, the new one, the old was great too FWIW but imho the new shorter one would be better for edc, i think they would be less than $100.

Contact Nick Allen (NWA knives) or Eddie White (ShadowKnives). Both great custom makers; both have knives available in this price range. Super people to deal with. Bill

On the tiny side, the Buck Hartsook is a good knife. It's my most commonly EDC'd knife right now. Puukkos are also usually very light and pretty compact, with excellent edge geometry (plus they look great). Might want to browse www.ragweedforge.com and see if anything catches your eye.

I would suggest the Blackhawk Kalista. It's a perfect size for EDC, many ways to carry and is designed to be held in any grip and feels very comfortable. A winner in my book.

I occasionally carry a fixed blade, but in my pocket. I will carry my Tom Krein TK2 or my Nemesis Knives Arch Ally. I will carry it in my left front pocket, in their Kydex sheaths. I can access them one handed.

Krein makes some great knives. Fallknivens are good too. You may also want to check out Bark River Knife and Tool.

I recently began experimenting with carrying a fixed blade as an EDC. The knives I've been carrying include an Ontario Rat-3, a Bark River Mini-Northstar, a Becker Necker and an A.G. Russell Woodswalker. Over the weekend I also picked up a Buck Hartsook. It's pretty cool but dinky. So, I've been keeping it on the small side, but then I'm in the 'burbs and the city and genrally don't need a bigger blade in these environments.

Of the 3 so far I prefer the Bark River. It's functional and looks good too -- not "tactical" at all. The convex Sandvik blade is easy to keep sharp by stropping.

I know of at least two people who carry the older style Buck skinner on a daily basis. The blade is amazingly stout and offers enough belly for most cutting/slicing chores while being able to pry as well. The 3/16 inch blade is naturally a bit on the thick side as an EDC knife, but you do get a blade that will take more abuse than any normal human can dish out. The older Buck steel is good stuff that many of us have come to cherish.

The RAT-3 is a good option, in either D2 or 1095. Or one of the medium or small size Bark River knives, I've been using a Fox River lately, it's very nice and just the right size.

The only "folding" knife I can be bothered to carry is a Leatherman or Victorinox multitool. But for a dedicated knife, I always carry only fixed blades, for their strength and size. You can't go wrong with a Fällkniven, and the F1 is just the right size for EDC.

I was just on the Fallkniven site and saw a TK5 for 3,295.00....GULP !! ...Is that U.S.Dollars??

You may also take a look at Greco knives, he makes some really great fixed blades. I carry a dangler sometimes attached on a belt loop, 'dangling' in my front pocket and it works great there. I love my Rat-3, but don't carry it much. When in the boonies I often carry a Helle Wind because it is a great size, very sharp and has one of the most comfortable handles I've ever had my mits on.

I am pretty sure that is in Kronner (however you spell it) or sek or whatever their currency is over there. US dollar price is much less

I have been carrying a D2 RAT-3 daily for a long time it is the perfect EDC fixed blade in my opinion. I own 3 of them. I carry it IWB and I wouldnt know it was there if I didnt use it constantly.
