Fixed Blade for Car/Truck

I think an SRK will do just fine, $43.95 on bladehq right now. Gerber Strongarm is also good but not quite 5 inches.

I’m looking into a 5”-8” fixed blade for a truck knife. The price is limited to $100, as I would like to buy a couple of them. I’m leaning toward an SRK but I want to hear what others use in that role.
 :thumbsup: Shop around a bit and you can find CPM 3V Cold Steel SRK for $110 . (Non sponsor so don't ask )

I believe they've even got some with orange handle and sheath .

Either the SRK or a Recon Tanto. If you shop around, the SRK is about $35 USD, while the Recon Tanto is about $50 USD. There are a lot of options. Let us know what you decide to get.

If you're talkin' $100 per knife, I'd look into the 3V SRK. They usually go for about $110 but can be found "On Sale" from time to time. I believe I scored my last one for about $83, with a 25% off coupon code. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a quality/robust/6" field knife, in 3V, for anywhere near that price. I'm a big fan of the standard SK5 version, but 3V is just such a nice upgrade...especially for that particular design.

Another Cold Steel to consider is the "Drop Forged Survivalist". Like the SRK, it would make a wonderful "truck" knife.

Happy huntin'...

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of Mora knives, unless the one referenced above doesn’t have a Scandi edge. I’m also not interested enough in 3V steel to pay double for it.

The SRK C is an interesting option. I hadn’t considered a Tanto blade but it’s an option.

How about up toward the 7”-8” limit?

People’s idea of a truck knife may mean different things, so if you could offer a bit more information as to what it would be used for it might help.

There are so many great knives available. I keep a BK7 in one vehicle console because it is big enough to handle any emergency needs, and the extended pommel could shatter vehicle windows in case of needing to. I don’t like blade coatings, but it has prevented any rust during many a winter. They are available for just a tad over $100.

My wife has a Hultafors heavy duty in her console. Smaller knife that is tough as can be.

All of the previously mentioned knives are great suggestions. I think the SRK is a great all around knife and I got a 3v one recently for under $100 which is pretty hard to turn down. Great grippy handle for bad weather.

I have recently become a Terava fan-boy and the knives are fantastically priced for such quality. My Skrama 240 goes in my truck anywhere now. I will be getting at least 3 more Terava’s. I think the 140 or 200 would be a phenomenal knife for pretty much any scenario.

Many Buck knives would fit the need beautifully.

Good luck with your search! Stay safe.

Well, my truck knife is also an SRK if that says anything. Wife keeps a Becker BK16 in her Highlander.

Mora Companion. Also consider the addition of a Varusteleka Skrama for a car chopper - makes fire and shelter building very easy and quick if you get stranded in bad weather.

No Scandi grinds. I have some choppers I could add to the truck knives.

I love my Gerber strongarm but I edc it sometimes. I do have a mora garberg always in my get home bag. I hear the cold steel srk is a good all around choice but have no personal experience

My truck inventory:
Mora Companion
KOA Jaeger D2
CPK Kephart delta 3V
SAK Officer Model
Case Orange Peanut with bail on keys

There's also GB Small Forest Axe and a Vaughn Rigger's Axe. And some other stuff.
