Greetings all,

I just discovered that in my new (temporary) home state of Texas, I can carry a fixed blade as long as the blade is under 5.5 inches :)

Soooo ..... I'm curious about how many of you carry a fixed blade as an EDC?

What carry options work best? (I'm thinking about something in the 3.5 inch range)

Any other thoughts on the subject?

Thanks,
Brent...
:p

not sure that it's legal here(not saying that hasn't happened). But I prefer a small of the back carry myself.

In the last couple of months, I've been carrying fixed blades of my own making more and more as EDC. Currently, I'm using a 3 3/4" single edge quenched 52100 clip blade with a smallish brass guard and Desert Ironwood handle in a leather pouch sheath as my right side EDC.

Since it's legal where you live and if you can tolerate carrying a fixed blade as EDC all day then go for it.
I'm finding that a sub 5" blade doesn't attract as much attention from those in our society who are squeemish about knives hanging off the belts of others. Some still privately freak a bit(it shows on their faces), but, that is their problem.:)

Around 4" blade seems good for me.
It takes care of the chores and is not a big PITA to carry all day.

I got a Damascus Hunter coming to me from Winston Knives that might be my first Fixed Blade EDC. I can't wait :D

I have been using the Cold Steel Recon Tanto, SOG SEAL Pup, and Buck/Strider Solution knives as EDC fixed blades lately. My favorite has to be the Buck/Strider, but the liner in the sheath scratches up the blade. :(

For several years after moving up here, I carried a Randall #8 Trout & Bird knife. 4 inch blade. Nice size and shape for an edc utility / sd blade.

I am the same as 'TheBadGuy', the difference is; I already got mine :D

It's a great knife, very easy to sharpen, and it's sharp as hell.

Carry system ? Regular leather sheath seems to be working fine for me.

Another EDC (yes, I carry 2 fixed blades at once) would be a small damascus wharncliff with a 2" blade. This one has a leather sheath with boot clip.

Now my question is : any of you feels naked without your knives ?

:D

Isn't amazing to think how we can have such relationship with a piece of steel ?

K-9 Personal Utility, just about everyday for a year and a half.
It is as big as an open CRKT Mirage & disappers (on your belt) in Mr. D's horizontal sheath. Cuts big for its size too.

Check out his forum too.
:D

Hi Brent,

Welcome to Texas! One of my favorite carries is the Cuda Talon. It's a wonderful knive and the sheath "system" that it comes with is very flexible.

My EDC consists of a Dozier Straight Personal fixed blade and a Case Trapper. I really like carrying the fixed blade, and having the Case is nice for those times when pulling out a fixed blade may scare some people.

I really don't carry a one handed opener anymore except for the ones that stay clipped into the inner pockets of my coats.

I can't see any accountants out there showing up at client meetings wearing a sheath knife!

Why not? They don't mind comming to work on bicycles, taking an hour to shower and change, before going to a meeting for an hour or two, then taking three hour lunches in dockers and polo shirts, comming back and hitting the books for a couple hours, then leaving half an hour early! Not that any of us peons out here in the trenches, who have to punch a timeclock everytime we get up to go to the bathroom, would ever take notice of such things!

My preference is for knives in the 4" to 4 1/2" range. Large enough to do what is required, small enough to be fairly inconspicuous.
