Fixed blade for police duty

Last recommendation, and if you want a knife that was designed for the military and police, then go for the discontinued, but still available (at a great price of $135.00) the Zero Tolerance collaboration effort with Strider & Kershaw, Model 0121. CPM S30V, 8" overall and a 4.5" blade

The 0121 is a solid blade. You couldn't go wrong with it. I'm not in law enforcement or the military but I carry one just about every day. It carries great, but it is kind of heavy. The only other thing on my belt usually is a PM9, so the weight doesn't bother me. It might be too much with all the extra gear your carry.

For a lighter alternative I'd suggest the Spyderco Street Beat. It's lighter and slimmer and has a good finger choil for retention. Comfortable in forward and reverse grip. And comes with a pretty good sheath and a G-clip for horizontal, vertical, and canted carry.

I'm not sure I would recommend a LEO go for a double edged dagger. That strikes me as being difficult to justify in a court of law, if the SHTF and you had to use your knife in self defense. I can imagine a smart lawyer spinning that all sorts of ways in court. Go for something that looks utilitarian and it will do the job in self defense, if necessary.
