fixed blade for self defense

... The bigger they are the harder they fall... Anyways YMMV, but I personally would rather have a TDI than a Bowie...

You haven't been in a knife fight either so you are no more right than anyone else here.

Yup, but I have trained in FMA for some time now(over 10 years of arnis) and all things being equal, a long stick beats a short stick. A pinuti beats a knife. Well, unless you're fighting inside a barrel....

There's also that digging a hole thing...

But let's go back to your original premise...

....Big blades are clumsy and easily taken out of the hand.

Do you actually have some basis for saying this except a pithy cliche? Or do you just feel it as a disturbance in the force?

It would probably be wise to check local laws. A dew folks here mentioned double-edged knives, e.g. In my state they are illegal so I can't consider them.

It's personal opinion. like I said before, I'd rather have an agile blade than a muscular blade. That's what the guy asked for right? Personal opinions. Yours just varies from mine. That's fine..

Yup, it's just how you feel. Thing is, not a lot of martial artists view it your way. Small knife for convenience of carry but large knife for range. Besides that's not what you really said. You said that big blades are easy to take away. That's true only for rubber trainers.

I guess I just watch to many movies... Haha:rolleyes:
