Alright guys I am new to the forum and this will be my first attempt at a knife. I am a tool maker and finally got the opportunity to build a knife. I plan on machining it and I'd appreciate any input from someone that has done it before. I plan to make a fixed blade with a tanto style blade. I have not decided on size or material yet. I originally planned on D2 tool steel but was then told I could get some of crucibles steel too. I am curious which would be best i see that S30V is popular but I am quite interested in the CPM M4 I am not sure which is best. I plan on making a few of these so one will definitely get put to work. I am also curious with the heat treat of the S30V and CPM M4 i have never actually worked with either however i also have access to heat treat ovens.

I'd really like some knowledgeable input on this so I don't end up going into it and "winging it".

Thanks in advance everyone.

Thanks for the links they were informative. Any preference on steel I know what impresses me on paper and in a die but I'm not sure about a knife blade.
