Fixed-blade knife recs for NYC

Knives like the minimalist and SoG snarl are not going to be very good for batoning. O.o

Also their blades are way under 4". Do you mean a knife where the blade is 4" or the entire knife from butt to tip is 4"? I know you said blade 4" but the snarl and minimalist suggestions are why I was asking.

Also I think the snarl will be likely confiscated as a knuckle or ring knife in NYC. It doesn't take too much brains to figure out how to hold the snarl like a push dagger. If a cop figures that out you'll be lucky if it only gets confiscated. I worry about it all the time when I wear my Perrins or Silent Soldiers around Toronto and I know New York is even worse.

That said if you can get that Bradford Guardian 3 in N690 I would go for that. It is an excellent fixed blade. You can just carry the sheath in a deep pocket.

Another great urban fixed blade is the Spyderco Street Beat. I believe the Liteweight Street Beat can be had for around 100$

Damn, dude ...you must be black LOL

as terrible and messed up your comment sounds, it's just how it is here... i'm not black, brown, or hispanic though, so as screwed up as it is, i'm in the low risk category. I don't think i've ever met a black dude names Josh Yu before either lol

I know man it is a sad truth here I do not know what it is but they never "randomly" searched me and I am the one carrying a knife in my briefcase.

on a side note. my fiancee walked into citi field on monday with my spyderco roadie yesterday (i've been testing the limit with this one, so i intentionally carry it places to see if they find it). that bag check lasted 0.5 seconds

Agree with the Bradford. Their 5" is on my list just because I want more steel from Brad. :)

You're going to baton with a 4" blade? If it's (the wood) that small, why baton it?

If a folder, lots of low cost, high quality from Cold Steel.

I used work for a catering company near Baltimore. When in the city I would use the excuse that I needed whatever knife I had specifically for (insert obscure french dish).
It worked back in the day. Just carry a chef jacket in my backpack and show a business card for the company. Most people arent going to argue about which is the proper knife for preparing vieilles poubelles.

Just hope you don't run into a cop that speaks french lol.
