Fixed Blade Knife Useless?

It's not useless, I usually throw my BK2 in my insect collecting bag before I go out, because it's really good for digging through rotten logs and I don't need to worry about snapping it when I pry a chunk off. Other than that, I don't think I've ever used it. I certainly wouldn't carry it backpacking, my tomahawk is way lighter and easier to chop with, if I was going someplace that I could even start a fire. I do like me a good sheath knife though, but smaller and thinner so that I can use it for other things.

I guess the BK2 is one of those knives that don't excel in any particular use, but you can do almost everything with it.
I'm planning to buy one as soon as I have the funds, looks like a good multipurpose knife for camping - hence the "Campanion"
It won't chop better than an axe, it won't cut better that a thinner knife, but you only need to carry this one thing with you, not an assortment of tools.
I guess it would really be good to have in an emergency, if you have nothing else or if you don't want to carry too much stuff around

There are likely no useless knives, just items that are useless as knives while being advertised as them. Actual prybars are pretty good tools. So are shovels. The knife is not the only versatile tool.

Depends what you're planning on doing with it. It will chop, not my first choice, nut it will do that. As far as slicing... yeah, not so much. I would never think of doing anything with food with it, except maybe using it as a meat cleaver. It's one of those things that has its uses but not many of them. And when you can get a lightweight hatchet or machete and a smaller, thinner knife that combined weigh less, it seems a better choice.
