My best performing fixed blade is a Boye Basic 3. There is nothing fancy about it except for performance and unfortunately price. But the overall design is incredible... comfortable to use and pretty frikkin lightweight. The other best fixed blade knives I've had have been Swamp Rat knives though I've never been super stoked on non-stainless blades. Most of my FBs are currently Striders. I carry my Strider SA-GG way more than any other FB knife I own. Mainly because it's compact, I really like the handle (a big deal for me more and more) and STOUT... almost too stout. ...also Strider does a great job with their heat treat.
I have a Fiddleback Forge one of a kind on its way to a sheath maker and it should be on its way to me next week! They are GORGEOUS and the reviews seem to be very favorable. I chose cpm154 because I prefer stainless at least for now. If the knife is even close to what I'm hoping for (feel, carry, use, aesthetics) I'll be picking up an O1 Fiddleback Forge knife pretty soon. I spoke with Andy Roy (who IS Fiddleback Forge) today and he said that O1 is his fav and he recommended it over CPM154. I just wanted a material I know I like and after a bit of use I may give high carbon another chance. I figure its a great opportunity to try two different steels crafted by the same hands...potentially a good way to get quality insight.
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!
