I really like the looks of the Pocket Hippo but the price is out of reach and I think I would like a little more handle and possibly some jimping.

Anything out there that maybe of interest for less that $60? Looking for something comfortable for every day pocket carry. Also like the looks of the Boker FB but it exceeds the blade length. Atwoods have appeal too but seem unobtainable, over budget, and may not have enough handle.

There has got to be something out there of good quality at a resonable price.

I have ZERO experience with it, so I can't recommend it, but the CRKT Side Hawg/Side Hawg 2 fits the description, and WAY under budget:

You can get a Bark River Mikro Canadian for ~$60 if you shop around. The black canvas micarta handles are usually the least expensive. Several places (knifesupply.com comes to mind) sell them for about $60, as well as the better knife + gun shows.

I haven't measured the blade, but the AG Russell Woodswalker has to be around that length. Good quality, inexpensive, and comes with a pocket sheath.

The Russell website lists the Woodswalker's blade length at 2 3/8". Is that too long? I guess so, you said less than 2". Good luck!

Can't go wrong with a Scott Gossman PSK, Jr. Outstanding all-around blade:

Boker's Chad Los Banos designed fixed blade Socom. It fits your description perfectly. A heck of a knife, too.

I have looked at these in the past but would be weary about putting it in my pocket. Anyone have experience on how well that half sheath works?

Not that well. It tends to loosen up over time, and eventually the blade starts to flop around. Also, as it loosens, the blade sin't held as tight up against the plastic, so things can get under it. The knife itself isn't bad, for a chisel ground. But the sheath is more of a gimmick than something practical. I don't carry mine anymore, as I worry about it coming loose in my pocket, or losing it. It's just not worth the hassle.

Well looks like a lot of great posts, thank you!

I kind of like the CRKT but the steel quality and chisel ground are negatives.
The Boker subcom is cool looking but over the blade length. I have looked at the Bark River knives, never handled them, I am sure they are of high quality but a lot of them sure look a lot like butter knives. :p

Not trying to be too picky but I suppose I like stubby little fat blades. Neck knives too. Skeleton knives with cord rap are interesting!

Any more ideas? Not against a small, quality custom maker either but seems so hard to see all that is availible in that realm.

Thanks again for the suggestions!!
