where jtr lives, they have a 4" limit on blade length. thanks for reminding me to make a pattern of jons knife. i have patterns of every knife i made.

Well, while making the pattern, just grind another one off and set it aside(with a tad more length to the top rear of the handle so that it slopes downward and back toward the edge on it's way to the underside) .....please.

its cold and raining out so it will have to wait till i can get outside again or in a buddys shop where sparks wont matter. there are too many sparks and a lot of smoke when i grind to do it safely inside where i do my finish work, too much smoke actually for my dust collection setup to contain.

Thanks for all your suggestions again everyone:)

Rich asked me to post some more pics for him,so here they are.

From a crude marker sketch to the almost final piece. He'll be using either tiger maple or birdseye maple for the scales.I told him either one will do,since maple is one of my favorite woods for knife handles. There will also be a lanyard hole on this one.

I'm in the market for a similar fixed blade (hunting/fishing/camp, etc.), and to whoever recommended the Fallkniven S1 Forest Knife, thank you for solving my fixed blade problems!!!!! Perfect!!!!!

You are going along the custom route?

Look into Muskratman knives you could find the answer you're looking for.

I'm going with the birdseye maple for handles. What do you think?

except for a few spots that need touched up on the finish, here it is. the overall length is 8 3/8 with a 4" blade. the steel is 1075 thats 3/16" thick. the scales are birdseye maple.

That looks great, Richard. I like the wood on this knife. That would be a great skinning knife.

oo that NRA/BM is a great knife. It feels awesome in the hand, has a sweet blade shape, good sheath, and is thick.

I'm looking at different small/med fixed blades to EDC.Budget is up to $150(maybe more)
I prefer tool steels, but not limited to them.I like full, exposed tangs too.

I really like RAT knives, but I don't want anything with a coating.I prefer a mirror polished finish to anything else.

Also,I don't like cord wrapped handles.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your suggestions,:)

John
May I sugjest the Spyderco Street Beat?:) The perfect size, with VG-10 blade steel, and G-10 handle slabs, with a full tang blade:thumbup:

Linen Micarta, not G-10 I think. ;)

But other then that, great suggestion. Also some of the other Fixed blade Spydercos, Forester, Dayhiker, Woodlander.

I stand corrected....Sorry bro; I guess you can tell I don't own one:D lol

That was X4 so I will X 5 on fallkniven F1, but hard call verus the S1

I bought both - my heart goes to S1 but pragmatics probably lean to F1

But there are many other good ones - comes down to taste.

Dozier. PERIOD. You have many many choices in his line-up. All great. Just spend an extra $50 and have Custom Quality Knife for life. Many Choices for an all purpose EDC FB in DOZIERs Line-up.
