Okay, I'm looking for a good, around three inch fixed blade knife for general edc and camping use. But before you guys all scream Izula, I want something with a longer blade and handle, and in a stainless steel. I have an izula, and I love it, but I need something in stainless.

I like the look of the swamp warden, does anyone know what steel this is in?

Any suggestions, or should I just save up some money and buy a custom. Or make my own...

SR101 is a great steel, and Swamprat is a great company, but SR101 much like 1095 rusts by looking at it. Just a heads up. If I had to choose between the swamp warden and izula I'd pick the swamp warden.

I've you can spare the extra length there is the Fallkniven F1 to consider. Very tough, takes a great edge, easy to maintain and stainless to boot.

Entrek badger. Made in the USA by a knifemaker that has almost forty years of experience. Knives are 440c and come with a kydex sheath. Good luck!

Shouldn't a coating help if it's not a stainless steel? Becker makes some like the Izula but with a longer handle. In fact, one is a collaboration with ESEE. Mora makes some cheap, small stainless steel fixed blades.

But my favorite option if the cost is OK would be the Buck Mayo Kaala. It's the right size, has s30v steel, and looks great.

Not sure what your price range is, but I have a Benchmade Pardue Rant in
440C that's a great little EDC/camp knife for under $65. The 440C model is discontinued, but you can still find them if you look around.

It looks like I'll get one of the bark river neckers, as soon as i get my next paycheck.

But I also love the look of that Entrek... Guess you can't have too many knives, right? :)

Thanks for your input,

~Robert

If you can tolerate high-carbon, there are still a few HEST's on the market, if you look around.

If you can handle the rust I'd say the swamp warden or the Becker bk 11 would be fine choices.

The ZT 0121 is a bit larger than that but you won't regret...

My recommendation:

- in line with your requirements, and affordable: Boker Plus Dozier Olive:

- Also inline with your requirements, with great VG10 steel, the Fallkniven WM1 is said to be very good (never tried it):

- A bit bigger and very light and practical, one of my fave fixed blades: the Spyderco Moran drop point. Not full tang, hence purely for cutting, not chopping. Excellent, really:

I second the Bark River options. Might be some just over 3" and some are even 2.5", but many of their knives come in A2 or stainless.
I got a Custom Highland Special in CPMS35VN that is .190" thick. Man, it's a great knife, the handle is a bit longer than the Highland, Woodland styles. Look at the TUSK as well, sheepsfoot, but very useful. Anyway, good luck choosing.
