Fixed blades

Hi Crag the Brewer Crag the Brewer , this "knife" (I'd call it probably "chopper") was given to me by a friend of mine from another, Eastern European forum.
The chopper, interestingly, was made to participate in a sort of competition of making a "battle/self defense" blade, of course the whole task and results were not intended to be very serious...
The design is following ( or reversing ) some how the old stile Seax with a little change at tip, the round part is the spine of the blade, where the flat part with the small angle is the actual edge.
Another interesting thing is, it's a convex grind but both sides are with slightly different radius. This way, when you hit soft material as fresh wood for example, the edge does not stuck in it,
you can pull it out effortlessly. I believe there is a Japanese technique of sharpening the edge that is similar, I just don't remember the name of it...
The chopper is somehow heavy, handle is just some textile covered in epoxy but with all the beating I put on it outside it holds just fine, no cracks or anything.
Handle is square, "Glock" style but you can use it very hard, there will be no hot spots or other discomfort, especially if you use gloves.
I used it side by side with the Kukri from CRKT, that I find to be also very capable, and the chopper was hitting much harder, penetrating much deeper and cleaner cuts than the Kukri.
The steel is nothing special, I assume, isn't very hard but takes good, sharp edge and holds it fairly well. I used it on old deck behind the house that I destroyed,
the 2X4 is PT and was out on the Florida sun and rains for probably 8 years, very, very hard material.

I guess as a weapon it would be very effective if you have space to swing it, I'm keeping it and love it because of the sentiment and as a curio piece,
it is ugly, yes, but it chops hard, and it's fun to keep it in my night stand's drawer as a last resort for the time when the Zombies come... 😂

I can't help myself....some old pics...

...... that last one is a G96 I have had since I was a teenager. It travelled the world with me till the 2000s and has dressed more deer than I have a clue about (though that Busse B4 is fast catching up - the years of taking 30 or so in a season will do that). Even today when I am hunting here in Aus the G96 will be in my truck. It mostly does food prep now but it holds a place in my heart. That sheath was made by a Danish Saddlemaker who grew up in Arizona before moving here to Aus. He was a great guy but has passed on now. He started supplying traditional holsters and leather goods to the "Cowboy Action" crowd here, funny to go to a gunshow and see the reaction of people seeing a well dressed cowboy in a hat and waxed bear who then poke with a Danish accent.... !

I've wanted one of Dan's super assassin katanas since I first saw it. It's my grail for long blades. Anyone who hasn't seen the video of Dan using it.... watch it. Boring for non knife guys, but if you are a knife guy... damn. Just damn.

As a machinist with ocd, I have issues with many folders. Blade play is one of them, off center blades is another.

Fixed blades just have less issues and are easier to get right which makes my ocd happy lol

Mr. "JParanee", I've seen many of your posts over the time I've browsed/participated in this forum.
You truly have a wonderful collection!!
I'm sure many, like me, really enjoy seeing your knives. My compliments.
Thank you.

I don't have an estimate. I restricted myself to three in my office. One is a two handed Barry Dawson made knife of my design. Was widowed with a small child and did want a loaded firearm available in the house (knowing that other kids would probably come into the house over time). Knife number two is an Al Mar Sere knife. Knife number three is a Russian made Kizlyar Supreme Model: Vendetta. They are functional, defensive knives.

The number of fixed blades I have has fluctuated greatly over the years, it has slimmed down considerably. This is some of them currently. These have seen everything from killing hogs/deer to processing wood and food and everything in between. I went on a fixed blade edc kick for a long while.

How's your fixed blade knife stable looking?
