Fixed blades

Ontario Tak definately. Found on in a motor pool in Iraq and carried it for six months over there. It is extremely solid, a simple design, not so big as to not be useful, but still big enough to baton through 2x4s (barbecuing behind tent city). The edge held up through being beaten point first through an ammo can. No tip damage. Even the finish was unmarred. The handle scales never got loose, the lanyard hole is nice, recessed and big enough to get ungutted 550 cord through. It takes a really nice edge, sharpens easily, and holds the edge well. The flat grind is nice. BTW, if you were stationed at Al Asad air base and lost your TAK...I got it. Thanks for the knife!

Could you be MORE specific? Do you want a big fixed blade or a small fixed blade that could go in your pocket? And how much do you want to spend?

Golly, with a gazillion choices, where should we start? Do you have any brands/manufacturers/makers that you like or prefer? What are you planning on actually doing with the knife? Can you narrow down your 'multiple purposes' statement?

Fixed blade. Hmm...

:D

Allright. Imho all around blade that can be very useful is e.g. Ranger RD6. And the price is good too ($90).

Bob Dozier
Busse Combat
Ferhman
Ranger
Bark River
Ontario RAT/TAK

In that order.

Wow dude, didn't realize your top end was so high, I recommended the TAK cause I love mine to be sure, but also cause it's reasonable in price. That piece from Ranger knives looks almost just like it. Whatever you get you should check out www.sheathmechanic.net he's got a lot of great stuff, and does custom kydex. Also www.survivalsheath.com, but his turnaround on custom work is lengthy. I have never been too happy with the sheaths that manufacturers supply, and to me a great sheath makes the difference between just a knife, and one you actually want to carry all the time, not just when you need it.

I would suggest a Busse. I've got two Busse's myself and those are hardcore users.
