Fixed design

M390 (not M380) is the steel you are talking about. Walnut looks very nice with polished steel and M390/20CV/204P takes a very nice polish and/or hand satin finish. One thing to be cognizant of when working with M390 is that it comes with the HIP canister still clad to the outsides (roughly .010-.012 thick). I am not sure if the manufacturer has responded to the requests to remove the cladding yet, but the last several pieces I received all had it. (etch a ground edge with PCB etchant and you can see it.) This cladding is a mild steel and needs to be removed before working with the bar or you risk some....flaws.

Alpha Knife Supply told me that Udholm is grinding the can off before shipping their orders. Can't say if that is true for all suppliers.

it's a good idea to make a model of the knife out of wood first to see how it feels in hand & if you will want to make changes before working with steel

Tim, if that is true...That's outstanding news! That canister is why I switched to 20CV for that flavor of steel.

John, HAhahahahahhahahahahahhahahah!

I think the design looks great. It is nice and simple and personally I love it. (I love straight handled knives with inline points.) I think many new makers try to be too elaborate in their first designs and overembellish. This looks great!
