Well, an interesting turn of events has lead me to commission a fixed blade version of Bob Lum's Chinese utility folder! I was in the market for two custom made kit blades and I struggled over the pattern I wanted the smaller one to be. Then it clicked...I remembered seeing the picture in one of the magazines, and that same day I saw the picture posted here. When I get pictures of the final product I will be sure to post them...there isn't a copyright or anything on that pattern is there? It'll be a little different, but should come out to be pretty close...

Chiro75 - the basic Chinese leaf shaped "Machete" has been around for a long time. You might be able to find some history. I've seen folding versions that (like the balisong) went from very small to very large.

Bob Lum's eye can improve on the appearance of just about any design.

We probably have patents pending on the folding version with a round hole in the blade. Have to do that these days. But I don't think there would be anything illegal or imoral with making a fixed blade version.

Thanks, Sal...BTW, I wouldn't have the hole in place, although that would be sort of cool in it's own way, too! ;-) Just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting the maker in trouble, although it won't be an exact copy since he will change the design a bit to get it to work according to his experiences...

Chiro75,
Yes, yes, yes, please send pictures this way when you get it. Great idea! "Why didn't i think of that?!"
