Being new and over zealous about knife making, I want to do everything!
To be completely honest, folders are what got me attracted to knife making. I know that technique and process are things learned through time and practice but I became curious, when is a good time to start on folders?
I have heard different angles and approaches and was curious what everyone's take is on the subject.
I also figured it could spark some good conversations.

Personally I want to get good technique down so I have been working on fixed blades before throwing in the extra components of folders.

I also got into to knifemaking due to my interest in folders. I started out by rebuilding old slipjoints and then started making them from scratch a little over a year ago. I have only tried my hand at making one fixed blade. I've stuck with folders as that is what I find interesting.

Just jump in and have fun.
before you know it youl be like: just wat to do that fixed blade, and realise that idea and that and.... and then I'll start a folder. oh but also first do that fixed......

Just understand that folders deal with tolerances in the thousandths of inches, vs. fixed blades which are much more forgiving.
Making sure that everything is square, flat, and parallel is of paramount importance. If you can't make a perpendicular hole, you're knife isn't going to close correctly.
