• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

fixing a broken tip?

This knife belonged to my mom. She gave it to me years ago when I moved out on my own. I found it stored in a box a while ago. The blade is still useable however as you can see that tip is busted off. I want to fix it. I have a few questions. First off I don't have a grinder of any kind so I'd be stuck with stones right now. Would you try to fix that tip with stones or should I wait till I get a belt sander and a grinder? Would you grind that tip flat or would you round it? I know it will never be like new but its annoying me that its like that.

Thanks

i don't see any picture
see it now :D
i would grind the back a bit, rounding it.
possible with stones, but a file would make it a lot faster.

Like Jacktrades has pointed out, file the spine not the edge. Remove the excess from the top, this allows you to keep as much cutting edge as possible. After you file it, get some 320 or 400 grit sandpaper, lay the paper down, and smooth out the file marks.
You can even go up to 600 or beyond to refine your work, that's just up to your tastes.
