FL Keys Day Trip

WolfTracker,
That be it, thanks.
What I like about South Florida(Everglades/Keys) is all the unique natural beauty. It is still intact despite all the development and people and I look forward to seeing again.

BTW- A really, really, awesome good book (can you tell I like it!)about the area in the old days is "Sea of Grass" by Marjorie Stoneham Douglas. Read it and you will get a new appreciation of nature.

WolftTracker I envy you. It's been 5+ years since we left the Keys (lived aboard in Boot Key Harbor) and cannot wait till we can move back. Some time you must to to Bahia Honda State Part in the middle keys. I used to work the Ocean Kayak rental there for years in the mid 90s. Too beautiful for words.

if u get coords... past them on brutha' i just killed some spanish mack today on the pier and am heading back out for some spearfishing on gar in the tampa area...

There's actually two wild bird rehab centers. One in Tavernier and the other is in marathon. I volunteered at the Tav. Rehab center for a few years, one of the best experiences of my life.

That meal looks fantastic! Love fresh seafood. What stove is it? I have been to Florida, but never to the Keys. Definitely on my list of "go to" places.

Definite . Bahia has one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, lots and lots of birds and a nice short little trail that goes through a hammock, coastal dunes, etc. Anyone spending time in the Keys should definitely check it out.

John Pennekamp is also good, especially for kids, or just adults who only have a day trip. 2 short trails cover pretty much the entire Keys ecosystem and the glass bottom boats are pretty dang cool too.

I've neen thinking about taking the kayak out to North Nest Key. Has anyone been over there?

I've never been there but I know its one of the designated sites for camping out in the bay. I think there are only 3 or 4 of them but its supposed to be a heck of a nice paddle in between all those uninhabited keys. Lot of history in that area... mad men, pirates, rum runners, NDNs... 10,000 Islands are the same way. Both teeming with wildlife as well, the Bay in particular since its pretty much just a huge shallow water estuary.

Thanks for all the comments on this old post, fellas. Perhaps a Keys Get Together in the not too distant future? Definitely should be in the winter months and we should plan from now.
