Had a Dan Koster Bushmaster posted in the Koster forum. Frozenfire then said he would take it and tried to send me a USPS money order. I told him that I would only send the knife after the money order clears, he said that was fine but of course, he flaked out. Or his money order was.....

You can see this in the Dan Koster forum...

At least the USPS type is the safest. Cash it only at the post office, their computer will verifyy that the serial number and amount are legit since they issues it before handing you the cash and at that point all is safe. The bank will cash it but cannot verify until it is present to the Postal Service so if it later is bogus they will withdraw the funds from your account.

Him bailing out is odd though

Hard to tell. He may yet reappear, that just happened to someone else who posted in here. USPS is the way to go with money orders.

Was what?

Is this some sort of veiled ad for your knife? Are you trying to drive attention to that specific subforum? If you truly have a problem. Discuss it here. If not, sell your stuff in the proper exchange subforum.

I guess I don't get why this is here

I think what he may be suggesting is the possibility that an MO was going to be fraudulent or nonexistent.

As to the reference to the specific forum, I took that to show that the OP was being truthful in his claim that someone said they would take it, and that it isn't simply a case of misinterpreting what the prospective buyer said or meant.

As a gold member, honestly, I don't think he has to or is trying to "push" the knife in some secret way. If he wanted to, he could post a link to his FS ad in his signature as you have done and then every post he made would reference his sale. And that would be ok by the rules here.

The problem really is illustrated well with the speculative words and phrases you have used in your post. Why should we need to guess what is going on here? If he truly wants some sort of help or to warn us why not just say it. The rules for posting in the GB&U are clear on this. Especially look at the bolded parts below:

"3. If you have a grievance with someone, by all means proceed and post your situation. You should communicate with them FIRST and BEFORE you try posting a thread. We will do the best we can to help you. But understand, deals that have occurred on other forums, Facebook, Instagram, eBay, and other venues we have no power over. A heads up is appreciated, but be responsible in what you write, it is a permanent record of your thoughts. Your post should consist of and contain factual information, not assumptions or false allegations. Abbreviated threads like, ""be careful buying or selling to so and so..." with no subsequent details will not be allowed to stay open for discussion or debate. If you are heated, wait a day to calm down, no one is impressed by foul mouthed, disorganized posts that contained fragments of broken sentences or giant walls of text that no one reads. This is NOT Whine and Cheese. Do not make comments that are barbed or provoke other people to get angry. Cool, calm, and collected is the way to deal with disagreements."

If they guy wants help he needs to help himself by providing actual information. If he wants more eyes on his for sale thread there a better ways as you have suggested and as I obviously make use of myself.

Or his money order was.....

We should not be playing guessing games in the GB&U.

OK, well I guess we will agree to disagree then. :) Nobody knows why the prospective buyer did not pay. He has not been here to tell us.

My reading from the OP's explicit words is that he had someone say "I'll take it" in his FS thread who then did not follow up and pay for the knife in question. "How" he did not pay for the knife is merely interesting. The "why" part of it can be a factor to consider, but I don't have to consider it. I can consider the "why" if I choose to or ignore it if I choose to. That he in fact did not pay is the real issue here. Granted, the prospective buyer did not receive a knife that he did not pay for, but from his words that he would take (and pay for) the knife, it does put the seller and other possible buyers in a "hold" status.

I myself have had folks say "I'll take it!" and then back out on me. I will ask them why and evaluate each instance on a case by case basis. Depending on the circumstances, sometimes I am ok with it, sometimes not. If I am not ok with it for whatever reason, I tell the buyer. If the buyer tells me "Tough crap!" or then does a disappearing act, I do have a desire and right to say something about it to other forum folks who may themselves one day find that this fellow has said "I'll take it!" in their FS thread and then they too never hear back from the guy.

It was my intention to use this thread as it is meant to be used!

To post a review of a flakey buyer and that is EXACTLY what I said. The buyer said he would take it and then did not. I said that this could be viewed in the Koster forum to prove that I was being truthful.

This is completely ludicrous. This forum has more than a few posts about flakey buyers. So I was doing nothing more trying to let people know that a certain buyer is a flake if they try to business with him.

I will tell you people one thing for sure. You will NEVER see this type of talk in the Fiddleback Forum! That's where I do 99% of my business on this forum anyway. Definitely a much better crowd of people to hang out with...

Thanks for the heads up. Every forums, regardless of the topic has flakers, tire kickers, low ballers, thieves, etc, regardless of the topic. It's the nature of online forums. That is why there are moderators and rules posted at each of them. Whether or not they uphold the rules and take care of the membership is something else entirely. Hope everything worked out.
