no ****! Why the **** you back here at BFC, you have said several times that you were gone, was that just for that hour or what?? I don't see why you say you don't like balisongs and you think that they are ugly but you come to the BALISONG FORUM of all places so you can express the opinion no one cares about. This forum is for people who enjoy balisongs and wish to discuss them, not for trolls to destroy and trash.

Guess what? Even if you never cut a single thing with your bali, they are great at building hand dexterity. I used to fence (saber and foil), and the bali techniques were very helpful. I had been practicing with a bali for several months before I ever started fencing. My first 'match' (just a demo against another fencer, to get a feel for the sword), I managed to actually win. Not because I was incredibly good at fencing - I wasn't - but because my bali experience gave me an significant edge in dexterity.

In other words, even those who 'only' flip their balis, aren't just showing off. It's extremely good exercise for the hands and arms. Of course, I use my bali quite a bit - most recently to trim masking tape when re-painting a car door.

...It also helps if it makes a great toy! And YES I have used my bali for some practical purposes. Cooking, cutting open boxes, whatever. Plus some things I probably shouldn't use it for... They're functional knives as far as I'm concerned. ...I just can't understand NOT liking balisongs...
 
I remember an article in Blade by Bruce Voyles in which he told a story about taking knife collecting too seriously. The moral to the story was that knife collecting is supposed to be fun, and if it ceases to be so maybe it would be best to not do it. There is one heck of a lot of fun to be had at Spy Hard (thanks C.G.). I'm going back over there. I remain Vampi... oops, wrong ending.

I think that the balisong has to be the safest and most secure folder ever made! When it's open IT'S OPEN! No accidental closings with these babies, Or oppenings for that matter also. It has to be THE most useful knife as a utility model that I can think of. I believe (if I'm not mistaken) that these were knives made to be utility modles first and as weapons later. right or wrong? So for this dude to say they have no value is silly! It's just a shame they are looked on as weapons and only weapons.
 
Geez...Trolls are everywhere these days.

I've used my balisongs for daily carry for years (although nowadays I don't carry as often).I still use them for things around the house & yard.I've had the occasion to try them out for wilderness survival,and they came thru with flying colors.

A small list of things they can be used for includes:

Cutting branches for firewood
A Sundial
A bottle opener
A letter opener
A measuring device
A prop to hold something open
A screwdriver (the spine on some does this very well if the screw is in an open area)
A spear tip
A wire cutter
A wire stripper

There's a lot of useful things a bali can be used for.I'd have to say it's more of a useful tool than most other folding knives,since there are some things a regular folder can't be used for.

I also fence with many different types of swords,and have used the hand control that I gained by playing around with balisongs to great advantage.These work the muscles in the fingers,hand,wrist,arm and even shoulder.It also helps your dexterity and depth perception.How many other knives can really do all of this?

So,if someone can't think of how a balisong could be used as a tool,then they probably don't know much about using knives in general.Or,in the case of a Troll,they're just full of "piss and wind".

how can you be sure hes a troll ? hes allowed to have an opinion, even though it may be stupid. People are allowed to state their belief the world is flat, or the worlds gonna end in 5 days, or the pope is the antichrist. i dont think you should ban them till they start spamming. if you feel youre wasting your time replying, then dont reply.

4. If someone has lost interest in knives or had no interest to begin with, do they really have a valid opinion of what a good knife is?
