Flamed Titanium TiO2 Antimicrobial under regular room lights?

Interesting article on the Titanium. Thanks.

With all the talk about copper, isn’t there the danger of “Verdigris” which is toxic if consumed? The green corrosion that builds up on copper (e.g. copper without a lining/coating).

…reason being why most copper cookware has a copper exterior or sandwiched between other layers of metal to aid in even heat distribution, while the interior is usually stainless?

Something about acids and reactions within copper as a catalyst.

Oh…. How my chemistry days are haunting me 😀

Cool topic none the less.
Especially with todays concern for hygiene. 👍🏽

No more dangerous than ingesting the non-oxidized copper itself.

You would need to consume a large amount before you would notice any adverse health affects.

However kids, please don't eat copper - oxidized or not.

AFAIK TiO2 is a photocatalyst. It accelerates any chemical reaction it comes in contact with. But the only application I know is in paints and other coating material that "self-clean" within seconds when exposed to sunlight or UV rays. In Japan, the smear from a bright red paint ball shot onto the side of a stucco building disappeared within seconds under sunlight.

I'm going to send that link to my Doctor: I think he could use the help!

I currently have a mini Benchmade as my everyday carry with copper scales, but it's very heavy clipped to the pocket. What I did to reduce the weight is, I have one scale as original and one as copper. In ancient times, Roman soldiers would sometimes put copper shavings in their wounds. Also there is a very well documented case of copper workers in the past having significantly less deaths from Cholera. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimicrobial_properties_of_copper Silver according to my research is only effective if wet. I'm now leaning towards titanium due to the weigh if it has antimicrobial properties. Honestly the best knife scale would be a copper titanium alloy. Someone needs to make knife handles out of a titanium copper alloy. Here's a study on copper titanium alloy shown to be antimicrobial. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33091623/

Verdigris is not really toxic. http://www.jcda.or.jp/english/tabid/143/Default.aspx
