I have recently found a few motors frames that may be of interest to the knife makers. They mount in the style of the 56C, and while I haven't checked, they likely DO NOT match the same mount. They do however bump the horsepower, available up to 2hp and rpm up to approx. 3400

The 143c and 145c motors.

You should be able to find up to 2hp or even 3hp and 3600RPM in any of the those frame sizes. HP and RPM have little to do with frame size. The main difference is merely the size of the frame, any mounting holes, and the shaft diameter. A 56 will have a 5/8" shaft, 143 a 7/8", and IIRC, a 145 will be 3/4". HP is a function of the size of the windings/coils, and RPM is a function of the number of poles (2 vs 4). Frame size is simply that, and is generally standardized at the very least based on shaft size and location relative the base and/or mounting holes.

You can use any of the above frame sizes for most knife making machine applications, but just keep in mind what your bore sizes are for things like wheels, sheaves, and disks. 5/8" (56 frame) is the most common.
