Howdy,

How do you all flare the throat of a sheath?

I am looking for a way to do it after the main molding is done, I could maybe imagine doing it in the first molding, if you stuck something under the edge, but there has to be a better way...

Heat up the throat with a heat gun. Mine came with a narrowing attachment that allows for heating a smaller area. Then I use my fingers (in gloves) to widen the throat. You want to be careful not to loosen other aspects of the sheath fit.

Also, you may want to do some of the work with the knife in sheath, in order to create a locking fit around a guard or groove. After I've flared the opening, I will pinch right behind the guard to create a locking fit.

I also use a heat gun, never had any problems. I just wear a leather glove when doing it.

A sharpie will act like a finger also and you won't get burned. That's what I've gotten in the habit of using for my rolled over thumb presses on my sheaths. It works alright.
