Flash in the pan steels

It has similar performance to S60V but with less corrosion resistance and higher hardness.
I had read somewhere that it approaches Maxamet in edge retention.

My other Biryukov is in CPM-S125V and I'm quite impressed. Again, another steel that hasn't really seen much attention.

I think that claim came from a rope test guy. It has almost identical composition to T15, which has similar performance to S60V according to Larrin's testing.

If all you've explored is K390 with no desire to explore further, why does it matter?
I broke my own word last night. That idiotic FOMO itch won out with a 15V Para3 on the way. I hate myself for buying another sprint run because I don't carry or use the ones I have since they aren't able to be replaced. So why even buy them??? I don't know. It's a vice I haven't broken, buying stuff I don't need but can' live without.

I don’t see S45VN sticking around long. Who uses it besides CRK, regularly? No one wants it for whatever reason, and in the used market it gets heavily discounted. CRK seems to be pivoting to MC, and once they are done with S45VN, I’m guessing that’s it.

The only two I know that use it in any bulk are Spyderco and Benchmade. The base model of the Para 2 and 3 are S45VN and BM has their "hunt" series that use it. I assume there's more but even both those brands still seem to favor good old S30V for the bulk of their production.

Hinderer XM-18's have S45VN as well, I see that some of their more recent offerings are in 20CV, so maybe they're done with S45VN as well?

I hope Hinderer is done with S45VN as I very much dislike it. Hinderer’s CPM20CV is much better and the heat treat is too.
That’s why I jumped on this one and love it. I love Micarta but only had a Skinny Micarta scale, that’s why it might look a little off 😆

Buck uses it occasionally.

Spartan uses it frequently.
