I know this a knife forum but you guys know a lot about lights also. Here is my question. I am looking for a light $40-$60 bucks. I have a Surefire E2D and I like it but batteries go to fast and its one stage like 85 lumens. I am looking for an all around light for long time and also good throw when I need it. Basically a well balanced light? Thanks guys.

check Fenix, Nitecore or Jetstream. Unfortunately you just missed some crazy deals on the gadgets & gear for sale subforum.

Ive know something really awesome that beats out all other flashlights in its class hands down and chances are uve never heard of it and its around 80 bux but worth every penny. Its 210+ lumens from a Cree 5W LED yes thats right LED takes CR123A batteries s5 output modes in 2 modes http://www.batteryjunction.com/ma6-tiablo.html this thing easily beat out my Surefire G2 LED

I'm a light guy, have all the brands, but if I were to recommend a great light at a decent price i'd say the recently released Duracell Daylite. Runs on 3 AAA batteries, 80 lumens, awesomness throw and under $30.00! It's well made too!

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I was thinking Fenix but what model would fit what I am looking for?

Fenix LD20 is exactly what you need, brother. Comes with free shipping.

Edit: rather than sticking primary (alkaline) batteries in it, considering feeding it with rechargeable Eneloop or other NiMH batteries; get them and a small charger at Wal-mart.

John - send me your email address please.

Walmart has a few different types of Coleman LED lights. The 75 Lumen one is actually brighter and has more throw than the 115 Lumen. Yea I know it is made in China but it is a good small aluminum beater light for the money. 3AAA versions are <$30 for the 115 and <$20 for the 75.

Another one to look at is Dorcy--I've bought a few at Target for $25-30. One is about 65 lumen, and the $30 one is 120 lumen--outstandingly bright, aluminum, small, cheap, 3 AAA batteries!

Thanks for the comments guys Im going to try a Fenix.

For the price/lumens you can't go wrong. P3D CE Q5 has I think 185 lumens and cost me $60.

I also have some surefire's; not as bright as the Fenix but built very tough. I just got the E2D LED version for $120 and I like it a lot. Bright center spot 125 lumens and a very white light.

another vote for fenix-- i have a P1 on my keyring that pushes probably in the 60-80 lumen range, is very reasonable on battery life, and was about 36 bucks. i use this flashlight daily and am very pleased. plus, it's compact and has multiple settings of output you can tailor to your needs.

I beg to differ. Fenix uses emitter lumens (theoretical lumens from the LED manufacturer), while SureFire rate its lights using Torch Lumens (lumens out-the-front, not at the emitter). Not only that, but SureFire is also known to underrate lumens. The SF E2DL was tested in an Integrating Sphere as delivering 170+ torch lumens, eventhough SF rates it as "only" a 120 lumens light.

The LD20 is good bang for the buck. However, most Fenixes come with a reverse-click button with no momentary function. If the user needs momentary-function, then he needs a light with a true tactical-button (AKA forward-click button). Dereelight, Nitecore, EagleTac and Wolf-Eyes all have true forward-clickys with momentary function and cost the same as the Fenixes.

I picked up a Novatac 120P, this is one sweet Light.
The Batteries seem to last quite awhile for me.
Up to 120 Lumens & it's programable!
Check it out.

wow u guys all missed the tiablo light i posted for ya which beats out both the fenix and the surefire ones hands down
