I'm far more of a knife guy than a light guy, so I'm in need of a little help. I'd like a nice light that is on the larger end of the EDC scale, with decent battery life and a push button on the end cap. I'd prefer not to spend over $50 on it. Any ideas?

Nothing but trouble from Pelican for my entire fire department. I've gone through three, since every firefighter is issued their own light apart from the ones that stay in the trucks. But, maybe we put lights through a bit more than your average joe. We've made the transition over the Streamlight for pretty much everything.

Just wanted to throw it out there. I realize they are an established brand, and I guess you can take into account some of the stresses they are put through with firefighters that they won't see elsewhere.

I've been carrying a 4sevens quarkAA for the past three and a half years or so. Its been dropped plenty, kicked around, used as a toddlers toy, and just a month ago went through the laundry. Works as well as new. Plenty of light for my regular needs in a fairly unobtrusive package. The deep carry clip was an extra 7 dollars or so but is a huge improvement on the way it rides in pocket.
I prefer the tactical model so you don't have to cycle through every mode each use. I also switched to the recessed button tailcap because my son ripped off the other button.

Fenix E35 ultimate edition. $45 900 lumen but does not have a tail click.

The fenix pd35 does have the tail click and 850 lumens but runs closer to $65

The foursevens quark line is great and the Quark Pro fit your needs but run $65-75 with run times of up to 720 hours on low.

The above can all be had for close to $50 on sale but you just missed foursevens sale and knifeworks just had a sale over Fourth of July and had the fenix lights at a great price.

Foursevens Quark pro 2A, Foursevens Quark Pro 2L-X with burst mode, Fenix PD35, Foursevens Preon p2, Foursevens Preon penlight, Foursevens Mini MA, Foursevens Atom A0, Streamlight Protac 2AAA, Fenix E15

I am a big fan of the Surefire G2 with a LED module. I have had some for over 10 years and they have never failed. I can't say the same for some of the Chinese lights.
I also have a 6P. It has an aluminum body and shows a lot of wear and dents if you drop it. I have dropped, kicked and stepped on my G2 with no visible damage. That
Nitrolon is tough stuff. The less expensive Surefire lights are not fancy, but they work.

Surefire has a newer light that has dual outputs, the G2x. It is about $50.

Which reminds me, I think foursevens come with a 10 yr warranty

Unfortunately, warranties are only as good as the company and how much you are willing to pay to have the item fixed.
I am not referring to Foursevens specifically. Most warranties seem to have a lot of fine print that says the company is
only responsible for defects in manufacturing and it is up to you to prove it. I don't have a lot of faith in warranties.

Ha , you've yet to see the OCD folks that sit and flip a knife open and closed 50K times while watching a movie or driving in their car. Same goes for lights, click, click, click.....

I have a Spotlight Shifter 2.0 and love it. It's pretty straight forward; three modes that you just click through, twist to adjust focal point, and runs on AAAs.

I have the four sevens and preon both throw out a lot of light but they may be too mini for you!

Well I certainly have plenty of options to wade through, thanks for all of the suggestions everyone! You guys know your stuff.

I've really enjoyed the Thrunight Archer 2A it's only $26 and it's a hell of a light that fits your requirements.

Olight M18 Maverick. $50, 500 lumens, 2 CR123 batteries. I've had no issues with mine. I've also had good luck with a Fenix PD32 and a Streamlight ProTac 2L. All good lights, but the Olight is the best of those three.

MAG-LITE XL50

High: 6.5 hours @ 139 lumens
Low: 33 hours @ 25% power

$25 to $35, made in the USA, and takes 3 AAA instead of the more expensive (and depending on where you live, sometimes difficult to find) CR123A batteries.

I've had mine for 3 years, and haven't had a single problem with it.
