Well, the ol maglight has served me well for many a moon, but now i am wanting something smaller and different. I really like the fenix and nitecore lights and am need a recommendation. I want a bright 60+ lumens, lasts longer than 1hr on high, smaller sized light. Gimme some recs WS+S  I would like to go no more than $70

I have a Nitecore D10 and a Fenix LOP and both are great lights. Either would be a great choice depending on your preference and budget.

I have been EDCing an iTP A3 Eos (upgraded) and have used it pretty much daily for the past 5 months and it has filled the niche of edc light very well for me. Max is 80 lumens. Plus, going gear has them. They are only around $20, but can go up to thirty if you want a stainless one.

The Quark or Fenix lights that use 2 AA batteries would be good for you. You can use rechargeables in them as well, purchased at Walmart or elsewhere. They meet all of your parameters.

I agree. Eneloops are especially good -- better runtime, low self-discharge, and reliable.

Itp Lights are fantastic. I use them exclusively and they are much brighter than you ask for and less money. :D

THanks OKBOHN AND Brenden...looks like ITPs the way to go..and at going gear is a huge plus in my books

I got a Fenix LD20 and really like it, up to 180 lumens and up to 70 hours on low running time for about $50 on amazon. Takes 2 AAs.

i have a princeton tec genesis and i am very impressed with it, and if i remember correctly it will put out 60 lumens for an hour

SureFire G2 (I think) runs about $40 at Cabela's. I have not used one, but the guys I work with and the cops who come out to b.s. with us swear by them. Only catch is the damn lithium batteries. I personally use a Pelican Super SabreLite. 3C cells, totally (as far as I have been able to determine) waterproof and impact resistant, but it doesn't exactly fit into the "smaller light" category.

Well first off i say go LED, last forever, pretty much immune to bumps and shock, only downside is that the light coming out the front tends to be whiter than normal bulbs.

Second I say go for a regulated light, this means that the amount of light coming out the front will be fairly constant until right at the end when the battery dies, as opposed to a normal light when the amount of light starts to drop off as soon as the battery goes in and then gets less and less as the battery gets weaker.

Thirdly is batteru considerations, AA, AAA, Cr123 rechargable etc etc.
AA is probably the most common and cheap batterty around, sold eveywhere in every country, so if you travel overseas this is a good bet, of course the downside is that the amoubnt of current out of one or two is not that much (8 on the otherhand is very powerful).
I personally go for CR123R, these are smaller than AA length, a bit fatter but more powerful, I also go for rechargables, more of an outlay initially but free light afterwards, combine with LED you can go for years with no more money needed!

finally brand and model: Surefire is very popular but expensive, Fenix is a lot cheaper but OK, Nitecore popular, personally I use a Novatec 120P, which is a small, one battery light that has a variable, progarammable output, is waterproof to 66 feet, is stong tough and works a treat, you may spend slightly more for one but they are wonderful!

I have a Fenix L2D for quite awhile now, bought on recommendation by Rock6 and it's been a great light (135 Lumens on Turbo). I use it every day at work. It has been discontinued and replaced with the LD20, I believe.

Lately I've been wanting a spare and have been seriously looking at the new Quark AA. 206 lumens on high.

I think it will be an awesome light.

My light preference is a Surefire G2 with an aftermarket cree R2 5 mode LED. The whole combo can be had for around $50. You get a claimed 225 lumens on high, 130 lumens medium, 80 lumens on low, strobe and SOS features. Surefire quality and LED battery life.

Fenix LD01. Amazing amount of light from such a small device and one AAA battery. I got mine at goinggear.com.....Great place to do business....

I bought the iTP C8 with the extra C7 body. It kicks out a ton of light, the brightness compares very well to the SureFire G2 LED. For about $65 you can get the light with a single AA body, a singl CR123 body and a two AA body, so you have battery and size flexibility.

I have an older Surfire G2 (Not the G2 LED). It just has one light setting. Will the cree R5 mode LED work with that one and give the high, med, low feature? Where do you get the cree R5 mode and how much is it?

Thx.

i bought the QUark 123^2

i love it! came with a plastic handholder, lanyard, extra o-rings, and belt holster. i never leave home without it! it has a really nice "moonlight" mode which last a LONG time.

my advice is to read a bunch of reviews and get familiar with the terms....flashlights have gotten quite high-tech

Yes, all you need to do is change out the bulb (I did have to remove the larger spring on the new bulb). The modes cycle by momentary pressing the tail cap within 1 second or twisting the cap within one second. It has a memory feature so whatever you leave it on is what will come on next time you turn it on. I usually leave it on low. I've seen the Cree R2 5 mode on e bay as well as batteryjunction dot com.
