Thanks Hoopster, think I will upgrade my G2.

I havn't used it in many years and I think that will be a great upgrade, especially for runtime and I like the different modes.

You'll love it. I think it really modernizes the G2 and it's cheaper or close to the cost of the G2 LED version.

I absolutely love my Nitecore D10. I have had it about 6 mo. now and still think it is the best i've seen. The low of 3-5 lum and 120 high with any setting in between is great. I also have others like the G2 led and Streamlight Nightfighter, but unless you just want a larger light, the D10 beats them all.

I think just about any modern light would blow you away if you are used to a MagLite.

I think that just about any of my Maglites would blow you away if you are used to modern lights, but then again they are a bit big for carrying. My Maglites may not be 100% standard anymore.

There are many great lights available these days.
My ITP A3 upgrade edition makes a great backup light on a keyring.
I bought a Zebralight H60w from Going Gear - that is a fantastic light for camping! It is so useful to be able to clip it to my pocket and have both hands free and it has a great run time. The H501w would be a good choice for something running from an AA.
The 4Sevens Quark lights and Nitecore lights are also great.

The good thing about buying from storl is that you can grab some extra paracord on the same order - you can never have too much paracord!

I carry a SF A2 (white LED) everyday. A little larger, and more expensive than what you are looking at, but one hell of a light. I carry a spare element and two sets of batts in the dedicated SF spares carrier in my pack.

I love the Itp aaa, but just ordered the 1a version from Going Gear. Looks like it will really up the class on lumens and for $24 bucks....You have to be kidding. I think it is kicking out 180 on high, that is nuts!

Good luck, you are begining a new....albeit expensive journey.

Haha, yeah, I have a 5000 lumen MagLite or two as well. The single digit minutes runtime leaves a bit to be desired though.

I have one of those - for the size of it the beam throws a really long way! I was impressed the first time I took it camping and shone it on some trees. The long throw can be useful at times too for spotting stuff that is further away (obviously).

My brightest can run for more than 12 minutes at 212 Watts/7500 Lumen - woohoo! But I don't usually take that camping because it is a bit big & heavy with the 3" reflector and body that holds 8 x 18650 Li-ion cells.

I have a Mag 2D that can run a Pelican 3854-L bulb for about 2 hours, it isn't my brightest but it puts out over 500 Lumen, I do actually take that camping sometimes. But for everyday carry I like my Nitecore D10 - it fits into my pocket better. A good camping flashlight would be something that runs on 2xAA cells - good run time & good output. There are Fenix, Nitecore & Quark lights on your site that would fit the bill nicely.
