So a Duracell AA leaked in my Maglite 3 AA LED light. After calling Duracell, they agreed to mail me a check for $30 plus some extra batteries to cover the leaked battery. My question to y'all is what's the best light I can get for around $30. Uses would be in small pack/edc.

Thanks

Wow, if I'd have known duracell would do that the last four maglights I've had wouldn't have been as much of a waste, pretty impressive of them.

Any of the ICON lights are a heck of a value, they sell them at Radio Shacks as well as online, very bright. I think they have some connection to surefire but someone else would have to confirm that, I'm not sure.

Maratac AA or AAA will both blow away your old mag-lite. Use lithiums if you're worried about batt. damage again.

iTP A2 or check out 4Sevens and their Quark line. Slightly more than $30 in some cases but very good lights.

Save up your money 'till you can buy a Surefire light. Seriously. I have a 6P, and aside from its' bigger brother, the 9P, it's the BEST light I've ever owned.

I was looking at the g2x pro and 6px pro, do you ever find a problem with only one output mode on the 6p?

No, that's one of the reasons why I like the 6P/9P lights...Simple off/on...No having to cycle through various modes.

4sevens is great, protip, don't buy from their site, they sell at above msrp so as to not piss off their dealers

That being said they are pretty expensive, since I've had my Quark 123 RGB I've not touched my maglight at all. if you want to stay closer to the $30 take a look at these:

Use the code CPF8 to save 8% on the 4 7's site.

4Sevens always does free shipping. Most of their dealers do not.

The few bucks you would save ordering from their dealers is canceled out when you pay for shipping. :(

Then dont order from a dealer who doesnt do free shipping. Problem solved.

Most (if not all) of their 4sevens lights have free shipping, and are significantly cheaper than buying direct from 4sevens.

I have ordered twice from them in the last month -- both orders were for 4sevens lights -- and they shipped 100% free.

I highly recommend the Fenix LD20. You can find them for $52-$54 dollars on ebay shipped pretty easily... even though this is double what you really wanted to spend.... you will have no complaints. In my opinion, this is probably in the top 3 for best AA flashlights.

Any other thoughts on this light? It's over $30, but I'd be okay with 50$ if I wait another week or two. Seems to have good reviews, but I know nothing about fenix, 4sevens or surefire (although I have really been leaning to SF for no particular reason).

I was in the same position as you... I was looking for a new flashlight for around 30 dollars, but then I came across Fenix, 4Sevens, etc. I quickly just gave up on looking for a cheaper flashlight and moved on to alittle more expensive, but oh sooo much better quality.

Anyways, here's some specs on the light if you haven't found them online already.
*It's max lumen output is 180
*It's got six types of output:
(loose bezel) low-5 lumens, mid-30 lumens, high-81 lumens, and SOS-81 lumens
(fully tightened bezel) turbo-180 lumens and strobe-180 lumens as well
*It's water proof up to the IPX-8 standards (i think thats about 12 feet in static water...not positive about that)
*Comes with a warranty of 6 months if you register it on their website
*Comes with a sheath, lanyard (i made one out of paracord), pocket clip, 2 spare o-rings, and one spare rubber switch boot

So that's most of the specs. It's a very high quality flashlight from a very good company. If you have any other questions about it, please feel free to ask :)

Check the Exchange here. I picked up a G2 for $25, IIRC. I have to agree with glockman though. Save up and get a SureFire. You won't regret it.

Yep... My 6p is about 4 years old, and it has been through hell and back, and still going strong. I even dropped it into a gas tank sump one night, and after wiping it off, it was good as new.

I agree with Dann about the one position switches. I want a light that is either off or on.
