I have this little 3 oz stainless steel flask, its MUCH TOO SMALL for booze
, so i filled it with clear kerosene.
To use it i open the flask, put a cotton ball or dental cotton packing on the opening, tip it let some kerosene flow out into the cotton. Then i close the lid. Take the cotton and place under your kindling, fluff it up and spark it. It will ignite with the tiniest and weakest of sparks, into a massive flame that quickly climbs thru the kindling. It burns quite hot, for about a minute.
Kerosene + cotton < had to blow it out early, Flickr has time limits on video. the cotton burned for around 3 minutes straight.
sure it aint "primitive" or "bushcraft traditional", but i dont give a rats
a
if i'm not following strict bushcraft law for lighting a fire:grumpy: I want fire NOW, we have had 300+ mm rain daily , its been raining for two weeks straight, if you want to "forage" for tinder and spend your time fussing the bushcraft way, go ahead. I want fire now please , and this method works, fast, hot and it rapidly dries out damp or wet kindling.
i can get about 150 fire lightings from one flask. Or i can dump it all if need be to light a signal fire.
something to try. It all packs nicely into a Pelican 1010 case or a leather pouch.
