I'm clueless as to the proper name for such a type of knife, as well as examples of manufacturers.

whats the advantage of such?

It is a chisel grind. This grind is known for being stronger down the middle of the blade because of the thicker cross section yet weaker along the edge which is quite thin. Also said to be easier to sharpen since there is just one side to mess with which isn't entirely true but pretty close. Also, due to the thinness of the edge this type grind can slice very effectively and fast.

Also, unless in a true chisel the grind is hand specific like seen in Japanese wood carving knives with the option of buying both a right or a left hand grind. Emerson prefers this grind in his signiture left hand grind. His contention is that for the uses of his knives the side of the grind is irrelevant. Some agree some disagree about that but for what its worth, many right handed people carry left hand grind tactical knives without any issues or problems with it regarding performance.

Do a search for the Razal. They have a nearly unbreakable point and are sharp enough to stab with any way, as well as scrape.
